Hey all.

Just to follow on from the PC Zone review.
84% is pretty good....especially as PC Gamer. ( a magazine that hasnt a clue about computer gaming) doesnt even carry a mention.

Remember last year? PC Gamer gave Force Commander 90% I mean who on earth would that this rubbish even 5%?!!!

So I am not shocked that PC Gamer has again let down its readers.
I dont buy computer magazines much as they all tend to give very misleading reviews and you will find that whoever has a demo of the game will give it a very, very high score - no matter how bad the game is.

It's all about politics, and a bad review = no advertising revenue from that Software House in their magazine, so they can't be too harsh towards some of the key titles.

Example.... Red Alert 2 is awful. It is the same as Tiberian Sun....a new release lacking everything...then, an 'update' comes out and bingo! The game gets decent.

This is sad and just making fools like us go out and spend our hard earned money on an update that should have been in the game already!

So, I think GB has a major edge over Red Alert 2 in this area as we can create our very own scenarios and updates would be very welcome, especially when adding new Civs to the game and units.

GB is a hit....however, Electronics Boutique (largest games company in UK who own Game ) doesnt have a release date yet.

This causes me concern.

November 16th? I hope so

I agree with you that some of those magazines "alter" their reviews on games depending soley on their financial relationship with that company... Take Computer Gaming World...they tried to ***** about SWGB graphics, when before that they gave red alert a good review and the graphics sucks and the units could barely be made out well...also starcraft has scale waay out of proportion and they didnt say anything...then they go and give a 12 page reveiew or something of Worlds of Warcraft which looks cartoony and only gave SWGB a 2 page layout with only 3 screens. I certainly dont trust a lot of reviews that those game magazines give and i find a lot of them are partial to a company no matter what they produce. I dont understand why PC game hasnt given a full blown reveiew of SWGB? Prolly cause if they did people would totally forget about the latest droppings of the Abysmally dull Command and Conquer games or Warcraft 3. SWGB is great, the demo only has 2 civs...everyone knows everything about the rebels and empire so there's no real excitement or surprise about using their units since you've prolly been able to use them in like 5 or 6 games prior to this one...i think once the full version comes out with the other 4 civs and new tiles, game types and such it wil take on a new life...also its a bit frustrating that they made Fortresses but no Truebechet units available to take em out which has prolly caused some frustration to people in multi-player modes of the demo. ANd using a tileset as boring as savannah didnt help either, but once again im confident the full version will be spectacular.

Mall, it is called an opinion. When I first played FC, Id hav give it 85% ish. Only after a few months did that change.

And the reason PCG didnt mention it is because they need a review copy first. I notice PCZ always gives is exclusives high marks. PCG doesnt

Having worked in the Computer games Industry - i do have some idea of how it works.

PC Gamer gave Force Commander in a magazine just before the game came out. And face it - there is NO argument to support force commander - it is crap!

Dull graphics, poor gameplay, messy interface...i could go on.

FC tried to be alot like WarZone 2100 in terms of graphics, however, Warzone did a good job without the need to upgrade your PC to such a high level.....FC should have been outstanding.

Now that Lucasarts have finally asked for help to make decent SW games again, GB is superb.

Its a game we can all play, multiplayer mode only makes GB more appealing add the scenario editor...and you have something that all strategy games should be.

As for Red Alert 2. Yes, I stand by what I say. I expected alot more and I don't see why I have to AGAIN fork out for an Update to get what should be been in the original!!

Yuris Revenge makes RA2 more playable and at last some decent units. This all sounds alot like Tiberian Sun...lacking in units, until the update came out. Money grabbing Electronic Arts for you.

like I said, I enjoyed it. My only major problem was irt got boring after a while, as the lack of base building meant that all you did was slowly advance. Add bases and editing, and Id say 80-85%. Instead, 60-70%

PC Gamer is extremely poor when it comes to reviews. However PCZ is very good, the reviews are normally very accurate, and they don't have any affiliation towards a particular company.

Best three games of PCG's in the last few years? Deus Ex, Half Life and Max Payne

three of my top 5 or 6? Deus Ex, Half Life and Max Payne

PCZ is better than how it was (97% for EF2000), but it still appears its exclusives get good marks to me. And, its as unfunny as hell, and with worse previews. PCGUK all the way for me

I think we could discuss computer magazine merits all day. However Deus Ex is definetly one of the best games produced in the last few years.

I have the PC Gamer where Force Commander got it's review. It really got a 90 %, believe it or not.

From my understanding, the game hasn't even reached gold yet, so i imagine PC Zone jumped the gun. They reviewed an unfinished product..

I doubt PCZ has an unfinished product. They used to, but stopped. Most did aside from PCG, who stopped afrter some awful game I cant rmeember, where they changed shedloads, and made it half good :)

another to add is that besides magazines, ratings on websites are also good as well. gamespot's editors are pretty accurate when it comes to reviewing games, so one should just not look solely at magazines to help them decide on whether or not a game is worth buying at all.

No one magazine is the best, however since PCZ has the largest reader number figures (UK), you would have to presume its the best of the UK gaming magazines.

But hell why are we arguing about PC mags?

I thought Force Commander was good for the first few weeks, the soundtrack are great but it was too hard too and the interface crappy, the storyline was dumb too, i think it would have been a real good game if they stuck to the original plans for it, and if no one remembers it played like a Starcraft Clone, well looked that way from the screenshots. either way i think it'd have been better even slightly in its original Starcraft Clone form.

When i last visited Florida i purchased a starwars game in one of your EB outlets. While at the counter i purchased a copy of PC Gamer.

I still have that copy, (because of its origin) and i must say its one of the most poorly written publications i have seen. The whole magazine just seemed sub-standard.
