How much does it cost for Sony to fix my PS3?
My 40gb PS3 just got the Yellow Light of Death, it's out of warranty and I want to know how much it would cost to send it to Sony for repairs? I live in Australia.

Hi. Nice avvy.

Yet I'm bewildered. How can someone post and yet still have 0 post count?

Consoles are the devil, BTW. :devsmoke:

Welcome, FernHill, to LucasForums. I'm glad you have decided to join us here. With all due respect, why isn't this in the Tech Section? :devsmoke:

No matter. I'll address your questions as best I can.

How much does it cost for Sony to fix my PS3?

In a simple answer $150 (more than likely in USD).

I might trust Sony a *little* more than Microsoft [XBOX360] as far as repair service goes.

And yet I am looking stuff up right now...it appears there may be a class action lawsuit for a product defect on this very thing...or not... Hmm...
You'll have to make up your own mind.

My 40gb PS3 just got the Yellow Light of Death, it's out of warranty and I want to know how much it would cost to send it to Sony for repairs? I live in Australia.

$150 is the repair alone so it may require shipping which can be anywhere from $25-50 (again my price in USD--consult Sony for actual rates to AU and/or look up int'l. shipping for shipping package weight.)

In any case call Sony.
Also don't forget their website:
http://au.playstation.com/ps3/support/)

You basically have 2 options: Pony up the $$$ and futz with service or try a DIY fix approach.

Maybe do listen to all sides of this argument. Educate yourself about the repairs themselves anyways just to be sure of things in case a repair center tries any screwy business.

In general I took the liberty in looking some general stuff up about PS3 repairs.

There's some YouTube videos and such on the subject. "PS3 Fix YLOD", tread with caution. I'll be happy to advise any way I can.

Hi. Nice avvy.
Careful, it may be a trap.

My NES consoles are reasonably well taken care of and still work, what, 20+ years after their release? :devburn:

Since this is the wrong forum, I'm going to go out on a limb and say it'll cost you $Texas, plus an hour of your blood.
