Hi
I'm new to the forums, I was looking around at some of the pictures and i found these two screen shots. If you look at the mini-map they are on the same map, and it appears that 4 different tile-sets(desert, snow, space, and grassland) are all on the same map. Does anybody else know anything about this? Are all the maps like this or just some?
Here they are

P.S. I really love the idea of being able to go from ground to space on one map I was just wondering how it was going to be done.
I think the different terrains are supposed to be different planets- I'm not sure though
I think it tried to feature different planets, cause in that screenshot, there are rebel fighters in space.
Yes I saw that screenshot earlier. It must mean that this is what they were talking about when they said you could tranfer from ground to space.:trooper: ----- :deathii:
Hi kyle.
As for the map, i guess that they didn't bother to change that for that shot. It may be like that in the gam, or they may have changed it. Keep in mind that they manufactured those shots, not actually played them, so they might have made a mistake. I quess we won't know till it comes out.
That particular screenshot looks like a mega-map with four plateau's in space, and each plateau serving as a planet with it's own terrain. That's probably how they handle it..
Here is somethying I found in Lucasarts chat transcript...
Ionfizzle: WIll there be space -to-planet transitions during planetary assaults as you land your troops?
Garry Gaber: Not exactly - all transitions stay in the normal view.
Oh, so that's what he meant by that. I was wondering when i first read that.
Let me get this straight. You can't call down or move down to a planet from space, or vice versa. However, there are half space, half terrain levels, in which the transitions he was talking about take place. You just go across into space like normal, but it's not from a planet to space, its from a platform to space to platform.
Oh, it all makes sense now.

Huh? I'm confused
I never realized what Gaber meant when he answer that question until right then. I mean, comon i went to great lengths to explain it to ya. What more do you want? :D
Yeah it took me a little while too.:D

What this means, is that you won't see how ships take-off, go through the sky, and then into space.
You will just go to space, as if it was water in AoK.
Maybe... They may have some kind of wierd void separating the two land types just look at this shot there are barriers on the wall and this is also the infamous super mini map shot...

Ahh, yes, the one mpa that has four different planet's terrains all seperated by space. That should be very interesting to play. no?
Yeah, that sounds (and looks) incredibly fun, I think they are supposed to represent different planets
Uh.....yeah, we've already established that. :D (j/k rommy)
The one thing that i don't like about it is that you have to carry your troops in transports tto attack, and i find that really annoying.
I'm just restating it, so everyone knows :D (actually I thought I had a radically new idea there)
I bet the only way to get from ground to space is transport (flying) That would be a very different aspect of the game...
What worries me is the edge of those planets, how will they handle it?
The edge of the platforms are made of metal, like in Starcraft, but they cant make the edges of planets like that?
I guess if their doing a Bespin map they will have some kind of sky tileset. Lets hope they do and thats what is used.
