Give LF's TOR Guilds a name!

TOR will be upon us by the end of this year (we hope!), and it's always been our intention to have an Official LF Guild, or two, if we get enough people playing on each side.

We have set two up, LF Knights and LF Sith Knights, but these were placeholders we set up when the Guild program launched back in March, and I think you'll agree that those names aren't particularly inspiring, or even original - let's face it, they suck.

Which is why we want your suggestions - you guys make LF what it is, and as this is going to be a guild for everyone on LF, it's only right that you all get to have a say and play a part in naming the guild.

There are only a few guidelines -

To keep things manageable, try to stick to one name each, or one name for each faction.
No offensive names - that should be obvious, really.
Assuming we get enough suggestions, this thread will close to new submissions on July 31st, and then we'll put the names to a vote.

We look forward to your suggestions!

For the Sith faction, I was thinking of LFN Purebloods. I have LFN Nobles in mind for the Republic side, though I'm not as happy with that one. Alternately, dropping LFN in favor of Ahtonauts could make the names more interesting (Ahtonaut Purebloods and Nobles), but the Swampies may object to that. :)

Replace "Flying" with "Frying"? Fryers are a religious rank, right?

Old Republic Phalanx
Because we're a sort of tight knit bunch here at LF even among other SW fans. Skeptics of LF have said their part but LF has continued to stand and we still get people who join us.

Republica Stormfront
Those among the LF band here who are for the republic strike me as the kind to be at the forefront of a major war effort against anyone who may threaten the well being of their beloved society. Whether on the front lines or behind the scenes acting in a more cerebral manner, they love their republic.
Also "Republica" is the name of a street on the planet Coruscant. There are those among the Republic who felt the loss and injustice at the sacking of Coruscant, now looking to take back the capitol from the Sith because they believe the Republic cannot coexist with the Sith Empire.

Sith Shadowbloods
Sounds kind of like a mysterious organization in the same way as clans of ninjas and exiled samurai were.

694th Imperial Covenant
The number inspired by
1) the wavelength 694nm which is in the red region of the visible spectrum, known line of the lasing wavenength for Cr:Ruby lasers. Red is the sith lightsaber color of preference.
2) There are varying numbers of legions of Palpatine's empire during the original trilogy.
3) Covenant just sounds like it would work.

Replace "Flying" with "Frying"? Fryers are a religious rank, right?
"Friars" actually.

Republica Stormfront
Those among the LF band here who are for the republic strike me as the kind to be at the forefront of a major war effort against anyone who may threaten the well being of their beloved society.

This seems uncomfortably close to the real life Stormfront. They certainly believe that they're at the forefront of a major war against those who threaten their society.

Unfortunately, they define 'those who threaten their society' as Jewish people and anyone who isn't white.

Probably not something an LF guild would want to remind people of.

Hm. Certainly wasn't my intention. :( I was referring to the storm of the war.

Something unique and concise or at least with a nice ring to it is my thought.

I'm trying to come up with something but most everything is too unoriginal or canny.

Saber is playing with the idea of acronyms.

League Advent Surge to Empower the Republic? [LASER] :p
It'd be a laegue, at a new beginning (the advent), doing it in earnest with enough passion it'd be like a surging wave, inspiring others, and the Republic part should be obvious.

I didn't realise LucasForums was renamed AhtoForums...Well while I don't necessarily agree or disagree with an Ahto-centric theme for guild names, I do know that I most certainly do not want "LF" or "LFN" to be any part of the guild name.

I don't have any names to pitch atm but I'll try to think of some, especially during my long trek home tomorrow.

@ Mav: agreed, but that wasn't what I was suggesting.

That said, at this stage we're never going to have a guild simply because we can't come up with a name good enough when all we really needed was something simple like "Scions of LFN" or "LFN Knights" or whatever...

Whatever we choose is gonna be LAME so may as well just choose something now and get it over with so we can set it up and get people on board.

Anyway, some names taken from and inspired by the Star Wars universe -

Red Watch
Army of Light
Bantha Squad
The Irregulars
Tython Rangers
Nebula Flight
Red Legion
Sun Guard
Steel Squadron
Wildfire

And there's tons more, but they we the least 'lame' sounding ones. :)

[7:39:36 PM] Mav: our slogan will be "We shoot first"
[7:40:50 PM] Lynk: what about the empire side?
[7:49:26 PM] Mav: Blood Orange Bantha Poo Doo's
[7:49:37 PM] Mav: that's my Sith Guild name
[7:49:50 PM] Lynk: Wild Bantha Chasers
[7:50:28 PM] Lynk: or Wild Bantha Hunters
[7:50:29 PM] Mav: Persistent Ewok Genociders
[7:51:16 PM] Mav: The Droids You're Looking For

Ok folks, apologies for the delay, I forgot about the deadline i'd originally set, and then I went on holiday, and then there was that trouble with those policemen...

Anyway, it seems we've reached a reasonable consensus, by LF standards, at least, so if everyone is happy with Scruffy Nerf Herders and Imperialist Basterds for our guild names, then we can proceed without a vote, or if enough of you don't like those names, let us know here and we'll put them up to a vote. :)

There are already dozens of 'Scruffy Nerf Herders' guilds registered, so there goes being somewhat unique. And I'm not a fan of the name either, to be honest. But Imperialist Basterds? Yeah, like I said before, I like the name. By the way, maybe we can create one guild on a US server, another on a EU server. There are enough Europeans here at LF to justify it, I think. At least, as long as the eurosceptic Brits can put aside their neverending hatred towards our glorious Union. :D

Once again, apologies for the delay.

It's obvious that a vote for the name of the Republic Guild would be a good idea - before I actually set up a poll, seeing as we are limited to 20 options (or 19 if we include Scruffy Nerf Herders) in a poll, I want to be clear on the names suggested, so if everyone with a suggestion could post it below, it'd make it easier for us to put a list together to vote on.

My own suggestion, based on a Skype discussion from a while ago, was Order of the Hairless Wookiee (or Walking Carpet), so I'll add that to the mix.

Sorry for the confusion, and delays, and I hope that with some suggestions, we can come to a result. :)

I've also changed the Social Group (http://lucasforums.com/group.php?groupid=228) I set up so that it accommodates both guilds. :)

Right, once again, I must ask for your forgiveness for delaying/stalling so long, but I've put together a poll based on some of the names suggested. If one is missing, please say so and I'll update the poll, there's room for 11 more.

Voting closes in one week, so by then there will be a name for the guild - it's up to you guys now.

EDIT: Also, while trying to set up 'Imperialist Basterds', I was told by the system -

Your guild name contains inappropriate language.

More ideas, please. :)
