IGN sat down earlier this week with Dallas Dickinson from Bioware and Jake Neri from LucasArts for an extensive Q&A about The Old Republic. Don’t be fooled by the size of the article though. Not a lot of new meaty info in this one unfortunately =) Worth a read anyway. Might be something in there you [...]

Yep, already read it earlier. Mostly filled with "We can't talk about that quite yet", or "We'll reveal that at a later time".

Jedi classes? Does he mean Jedi and Sith, or should we expect more than one Jedi class?

Other than that, most was already known or didn't get an answer, but it was a nice long read.

Well, it seems kinda likely there would be more than just one generic Jedi/Sith class. KotOR had the different classes, and K2 with the prestige classes added on top. They need some way to make all the Jedi/Sith that will be running around at least semi-unique. Good catch, though.

He said that they've only talked about humans! I hate humans (as playable species in Star Wars games)! I hate this MMO all over again.

Well, yeah, I was expecting Consular, Guardian and others as branches in the Jedi class, but you could interpret the quote as more than one Jedi class in the eight starter classes you'll be able to choose from. Could the quote that one planet will be the starting place of multiple classes be any indication of that? (Trooper and Smuggler at Ord Mantell, two Jedi classes at Tython?)

Is it really necessary to have 2 different starting Jedi classes? Seems kinda pointless, and I thought each class was supposed to have a different story, experience, etc.? Not sure how a second one would be unique. I guess they could find a way to twist a second Jedi class into another story, just seems unnecessary to me.

They should allow players to choose whether they want to be left handed or right handed.

n=No they shouldn't its clear that everyone in star wars gets hit on the left hand with a meter stick if they use their left hand to write or wield a weapon. D:

I'd rather the classes were all very much different from one another, and two Jedi classes would be unnecessary and boring.

Am I the only one who's curious about how the specialisation and branching of classes will work?

After the first time you hate it they don't really care, it's not like someone who hates it once and won't buy it will hate it a second time and then buy it. ;)

They should allow players to choose whether they want to be left handed or right handed.

Sure, make them do EVERY melee attack animation again mirrored, and then make sure these mirrored attacks match up to a right handed player during a duel, just to please a few people who want their character to be left handed...

They'll probably specialize classes like the Talents of WoW and Expertise of SWG. Though to be honest, I'd like it if it took a bit of inspiration of LotRO's traits system, that gave you stat and skill bonuses just from doing things like exploring zones or killing creatures. But I think BioWare does mean Talent specs when they refer to specialization.

For the uninitiated, these are metaphorical trees with a mix of mostly passively abilities with a few active abilities thrown in. Each time you level, you get 1 point to put into these trees. There are 3 of these trees in WoW, each has a focus on a unique angle. Let's use the Paladin example from WoW, they have 3 trees. Holy is a tree dedicated to healing, filled with bonuses to healing and new healing spells; Protection is a tree for tanking, with skills and abilities that let you take more damage than others; and finally Retribution is a damage dealing tree, which gives you abilities focused primarily on dealing more damage quicker.

Going with that, it's easy to see how BioWare being able to make Jedi specialize as Consulars, Sentinels, or Guardians. The same could be done with Troopers or Bounty Hunters, with trees focusing on ranged warfare, explosives, or helping the party(in the case of Trooper).

The problem however with WoW is that everything ends up falling into "best spec". I would hope TOR finds a way to balance abilities within a tree, so that I can still end up within close comparason to others, without having to mimic their design.

^ The only reason that happens is because some talents were just plain useless and didn't help you much at all, they may of been useful if it added more like some gave you 1% more dmg to a certian race.. oh good and the highest it could go is 3%..3% ain't gonna change much.

I'm not talking about every aspect. Just let players wield a blaster in the left hand or something.
