I decided that I'd play around with modeling again, and this time create a lightsaber!
Well, it didn't go that well.
I modeled it just fine, the UVW-Mapping took far more time that it should, and then I played around with the Pivot point in order to match it with the original saber I was looking at (w_lghtsber001).
I then exported my 'finished' lightsaber, opened up MDLops and used the replacer tool to replace ishandle01 in the original w_lghtsbr001 with my modeled NGon01. Ran the utility, renamed the base to w_lghtsbr056 and created a .uti for it with KTool...
Then the weird stuff started.
I dumped it all in my clean override and started KotOR. Loaded up my saved game that I had edited to allow me the use of Lightsabers. Then, I went to the equip screen, clicked on the right hand and then clicked on the Lightsaber...
...And I equip it, however its a good three-quarters of a meter behind my character's hand. "Odd," I thought to myself, and I went back and did the pivots and reset xform again. and went through the process again.
Then, I'm back on the equip screen and I click on my lightsaber...
... And the game locks up! Repeating the two-second loop of music I was on at the point along with the selection sound.
Anybody have any idea what could be going wrong here?
Well really you should reset your transforms before you do the pivot and definitely before you link up your model. If you need to reset xform, unlink everything, reset, then link it all back up and do your alignment then. If you try to reset xform while your model is linked to the base it will do funny and unexpected things.
Thanks Inyri, I'm guessing that's the problem.
It's kind of funny having a floating saber following me though... oh well.
