I do alot(100s or GBs per week) of video conversion following all the dvb recording I do.
I 100% recommend 'any video converter'. There is a free edition which covers the conversions you need. Some great profiles, highly customisable, and great UI. Super and AVC are both based on Mencoder etc, but because AVC has a dedicated software company making it(there are are retail versions etc) its a bit more poilished and stable. Also, as a x64 user, Ive had some grumbles with super so simply veer away from it nowdays.
Also 100 demerits points for super having the absolute fulgliest looking site any app can have :D (though it has improved a bit)
Im at work so cant dig out a link..though there should be one in the killer apps thread :p If not, googlism is your friend
If you are encountering difficulties with either, you need to ensure you have a full compliment of relevant codecs installed in the background... check the 'important updates' thread for lists of these relevant to XP or vista.

I had trouble downloading SUPER, so i'll give your suggestion a try Astro.
