I don't have the game (and don't intend to get it) but it looks like a lot of people get this error too...see this thread: http://masseffect.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.html?topic=631450&forum=127)

Also note that your computer doesn't meet the minimum requirements (http://masseffect.bioware.com/gameinfo/system_requirements_pc.html) for the game in terms of RAM.

Not to sound like a d*ck, but do you seriously expect a game this new to be able to run on 512MB of RAM?

Id also like to submit the *single core* Athlon 3000 is doing you no huge favours either...Combine that with your 7600, and even with code fixed, you may get a clunky semblance of a game at 800x600.

Still, these may not be root cause of your GPF grief...many with higher specs are having the same issue ;)

What I don't understand is why I was able to run the game at all and capture so much footage thus far. If my PC's specs are so crappy, it should have told me and not even allowed me to play the game, right?

Not necessarily. KotOR would tell me that my specs didn't measure up and I could still play it with my mighty GF 420MX.
