A Question

So, today I was on the couch taking a nap and my cat jumped up onto the back of the couch, and settled down in the bathing position. The first thing he began to lick was his tail. He spent about five or six minutes on scrubbing his tail, and then he moved on to his belly.

Why do cats wash their tails so much? Who cares about the tail? It's an erroneous body part. I mean sure, it helps them balance, or whatever. But why keep it so damned clean?

That reminds me of those commercials where the cats are like "meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meow."

You know those ones.
