Official Press Release (
http://www.spore.com/press_021208.php)
This game sounds quite cool, I used to enjoy SimCity when it first came out and was still innovative...Mind you The Sims is an awful game, but this one looks like it's got it all, very literally :)
I was very excited by the game at first. My excitement has diminished somewhat in the last year, but I'm still following it's progress. It has the potential of becoming a great game, but even if it is, I'm not sure I'd want to buy it. The Sims is considered a great game too, but it's not just my thing. I'll guess I'll see how Spore is going to turn out.
About friggin' time!
There's apparently a watered down version that focuses on the creature creation heading to the DS.
I was begining to think I would not see it completed in my lifetime, better late than never though.
Mur'phon, I was thinking about the same thing. Fortunately, some other major releases managed to grab my attention and kept me from committing seppuku.
I look after this game ever since 2005. Of course the feel isn't the same as it was three (!) years ago, but as the release date comes closer, so will that feeling.
I loved the Sims and played it for hours (got a handful of its expansion packs, too), but never played the second one - didn't seem to hold the same magic for me. I can't wait for Spore though, I think it'll be awesome!

Guess what - TheSims 3 is coming out in 2009

What is the obsession with spore? what is it really? Up to now I have seen like 4 screenies and it basically looks like one of those crappy "Viva Pinata"
games.
That game is not worth it. there are way better games out there to get than this crappy one.

How do you know? It's not released yet so no one can utter an opinion about it, the question isn't whether or not the game is good, it's whether or not people are anticipating it a lot or not...
Obviously you're not, so I suggest you avoid this thread if you dislike the subject so much ;)

There's a reason why I posted two links in the first post, click them and answer your own questions :)
Dude, it's just another Sim-like game. If you think games like this are good, I would suggest trying shooter games first. Violence and action are way more fun than boring Sim games.

What are Sim games [rhetorical]? I assume you're generalizing the "The Sims" with the "Sim City" franchises, which are completely different game genres.
People tend to get tired of the same FPS over and over again. Because, let's face it, they're never that much different. And the plotlines suck even more so than usual.
Violence and action are way more fun than boring Sim games.
Not everybody would agree with you there. And I believe there is a little bit of violence in Spore - I mean, your creatures fight with other species, don't they?
Sure, I guess, but first person/third person shooters are way better for the fun factor, IMO. If a poll was taken if shooting games like halo 3 are better than Sim games like spore, I bet almost everyone would vote that halo 3 is way more fun.
Sim games are just well, economy, politics, guiding a species to further advancement, and guiding sims in a simulated life, whereas shooter games have lots of nice explosions, excitment, etc, etc. Shooter games can have great storylines. Just look at Crysis and the halo series- great storylines.

If you would take a look at what game has dominated the PC charts for like the last year or more the only name that'll keep coming back is either The Sims 2 or one of its expansion packs, so if you were to have a vote including that audience, Halo 3 would lose...hard, with most people going Ha-WTF?-lo...
Sim games include the elements you've mentiones, and Spore will include all of those plus more, a bit more versatile than the linear scope of an FPS, no matter how pretty the explosions are...
Before you make statements like that, I'd do my research first, you can speak for yourself and voice what is your opinion, but you can't generalize things based on what you think should be ;)
Crysis and Halo also have one thing in common - they're pathetic excuses for games. I mean, if you're going to cite a shooter's plotline, cite Half-Life, not Halo.

Good to see that your ignorance and penchant for putting your foot in your mouth extends outside of Kavar's, Arcesious.
It's very good that you qualified your first statement with 'IMO', because not everyone thinks the way you do. You may get more enjoyment out of shooters, but wow, there are other people in the world who happen to *gasp* enjoy simulation games more than shooters! Imagine that! They like doing the whole micromanaging thing because it appeals to them and what their tastes are. To write a game that has not even been released yet off simply based on its genre (and not research and actual information) is the height of arrogance and downright ignorance.
Your 'poll' idea is ridiculous as well. Perhaps if you were to poll a gaggle of 12-year old boys screaming obscenities into Xbox 360 headsets, only then would you get the results you wager on. You cannot really make an 'x is better than y' judgment when talking about simulation games and FPSes, as they are two completely different genres catering to different gaming styles.
And yes, shooters can have good storylines, but the gameplay basically stays the same: Aim cursor at enemy, press mouse button, repeat ad nauseam. Some people want something different from their gaming experiences and to call the games they enjoy 'crappy' and 'not worth it' shows you for what you really are: ignorant, intolerant and shallow.
Good day.
You know, I thought at first that Arsescious was being facetious. I mean, look at his posts! The only thing he ever says about FPS is that they have explosions.
You're calling me ignorant, intolerant, and shallow? ... :¬: I see no evidence in your claims of me being such, but I do see your point made about how Sim games can be more fun than shooter games. I'll give this game a chance now, as your arguments have swayed me, but they could have done without the insults.
Edit: But, I admit I was out of line calling this game crappy and not worth it with no evidence to my claims either. In that, I was ignorant and shallow.

If Spore comes to the X360, I'd be a happy man, even if it was stripped to be nothing more than that terrible "Urbz" game.
I don't buy into the hype of Spore being the 'best game ever', instead, I'm going to treat it as a stripped-down kidde-verison of Civilization. Which I always wanted to see, since Civilization is so complex. So, there ya go.
Civilization is only a single phase of Spore, though. I can't wait to guide my giant, walking brains from the primordial soups to intergalactic dominance.
After further review of this game, I find it to have great potential. It's not the best game, IMO, but it's new way of gaming will be able to open doors to much better games like it. MOS - Massively Online Singleplayer, sounds like a pretty good new concept too. The ability to create a species and make it very detailed is a very nice factor in this game. The only downside I really see is that it is a little bit 'cartoonish'. Otherwise, it is a great game, and it could pave the way for a whole new genre of great, inventive games. Sorry for my previous arrogance about this.
I've been looking forward to Spore for ages, but in a way I fear it, because I know I'm going to be one of those people who spends three hours tweaking their creatures to make it "just right" and then starts over again because once playing they notice the eyes are a few pixels too high.
Well at least we won't be denied pervertedness...
(CNN) -- When makers of one of the most anticipated video games of the year invited users to help design part of the game, the gamers jumped at the chance to create animated characters. But some took it upon themselves to create something entirely different: a new kind of Internet porn.

This game is going to be so fun as long as my computer successfully runs it. (No luck playing any EA games on my computer in the past, despite meeting system requirements and trying every fix...)
Indeed. Just playing around in the Creature Creator (
http://www.spore.com/trial) (Free Trial and paid versions available) is loads of fun.
I can't wait till "everything" is open :D

I know. They even talked about the "Civillization" phase of Spore. Doesn't get more blatent than that. But it's true that it has much more to offer than that-content pollination or whatever, creature creation, several stages. I think I will be buying this, so long as it runs on my terrible computer.
And will SOMEBODY tell me what IMO stands for! Intellectual Marmoset Organs? Interesting Magical Orbs? Or Integrated Multiphase Orbits?
THAT should get a response.
