I do the same thing all the time and amazingly it works, I build up my fleet with as many capitol ships and throw them all at the enemy all at once.

2 Core corvettes, 1 mon cal cruiser, 1 fleet commander.
Owns all the time.
The buffed up version:
4 Core corvettes, 8 Mon Cals, 2 fleet commanders.
Owns even more.
Put them in this formation:
C=Core. Corvette M=Mon Cal

And in the expansion, rebels become massively overpowered in firepower.
MC30 owns all except bombers.

Units to Kitchen
Fighters and bombers=butter
Frigates=bread
Capital Ships=hard bread
Corvettes=blunt hot knife(non-flammable wood)
MC30=Chainsaw

Always have hot knives next to your bread, don't let butter get smeared on them.
Chainsaws will cut through bread and knives with ease, but will be jammed by butter.

2 chainsaws help A LOT when those lots of times where hard bread attacked, ALWAYS have them in a defense garrison.

I like to set traps. I'll send in one ship and then lure the ships that are following it into a trap. it thins down the enemy numbers and it's pretty effective during long battles
