I work at an ice cream place, someone wearing a MGS shirt came in and ordered a shake. I handed it to him, looked at him and said "Shake? SHAKE?! SHAAAAAAAKE!!!" Like when you die.
...I die a lot.
DAMMIT.
I would always run'n'gun just to get to the rest of the story really if you have enough ammo and can find one reliable hidey-spot you'll be fine.
