Hi,

I'm after some strategy advice. I'm between Mission 4 and 5 of the Rebel Campaign I'm trying to attack Freisa with my space fleet but keep getting beaten.

My force comprises ....

X-Wings - 10
Y - Wings 11
The Sunderland Heart
Corellian Gunships - 3
Corellian Corvette - 1
Marauder Cruiser - 1
Nebulon B Frigate - 1
Z-95 Squadron - 1 (not sure how this got in the fleet)

And a fleet commander.

In the fleet pop up box it gives a value of 42 which I'm guessing is what it thinks my fleets is strength is worth.

I am against a

Class 3 Space station
2 Victory Class Destroyers
4 Broadside Cruisers
plus possible one other ship I've not seen yet.

The empire fleet pop up box gives a value of 16 which I guess doesn't include the space station.

My first question is am I attemting this with a strong enough force?
If I auto resolve I lose every time so the A.I. obviously doesn't think so.
My second question is that if my force is strong enough (please note
about half of it has to come on as reinforcement) is it a sensible mix,
I haven't any idea how many Y Wings to approach this with - I've got 11
is this enough?(well obviously not the way I'm doing this). Same goes
for the rest of the force.
Now tactics - I think I know what I'm doing with the various ships and what empire ships I'm pitting them against but if my force is adequate then
obviously my tactics aren't working so any help would be appreciated.

I think this game is brilliant but also possibly beyond me! :)

Well, in my experience fighters and bombers are, while being excellent against star destroyers, not very well suited for combat against space stations until their hangar is taken out (since it keeps producing TIEs and Tartans).
I suggest you first get your fighters to safety, then try to hunt down the broadside cruisers with your gunships (since they can be devastating against your fighter squadrons) while using the corvette to escort the Neb B.
Then I would try to draw the destroyers away from the space station and finish them quickly with fighters/bombers.
In the end, try taking out the station's hangar quickly using either Y-Wings or gunships and then just throw everything you've got at the station - just be careful not to lose fighter/bomber squads to rocket launchers...

1) always do the combat by yourself, don't rely on auto resolve.
2) Try to get the tartans(then broadsides) with your bigger ships first, they kill bombers too fast.

3) Try to bring the fight AWAY from the spacestation. Concentrate your firepower on one ISD first, then another, then rush the station.

4) Aim for the hardpoints. Kill the hanger first, yoou can do that with all the bombers at a ship first, use your special ability. Use fighters to protect bombers.

I noticed you only have one "capital" ship. If you can get bigger ones, you will need them.

2 Victory Class Destroyers (in fact one) can easily remove your small Neb-B from the game, 4 broadsides bombarding your fighters is going to decimate them in no time.\

You need balence when you engage the enemy, too many fighters isnt good and likewise too many capitals isnt good either. Right now you dont have enough of the larger ships to damage deal and absorb damage. Get the highest class you can. (and dont get MC30s if you play FoC)

Thanks for all the advice everyone gives me plenty to work on. In the case of getting a better mix for my fleet and bigger capitals - do I need to go get a Mon Calamari cruiser and/or an Alliance frigate?

to simply put it, yes.

I think you just have EaW right? Then you definatly need bigger ships. Theres one very expensive exception if you have FoC, spam B-Wings. If you want to use bombers, you need to protect them. normally a neb-B could do that against broadsides and tartans, but since they have victories too, you , theres no way you can protect your bombers.

1 broadside alone can eliminate atleast 3 squadrons before being taken out by the bombers. If they have 4 and all use their special, they create a cosmic hell for anything smaller than a nebulon-B or Aclamator. To destroy the broadsides (and tartans who can also eat up smaller fighters) you need capitals. You have the smallest capital out there, and only one. They have 2 middle sized. One victory can beat one neb-B, how much more painful and fast will that neb-B lose against 2 victories? With no Nebulon-B your fighters are open for attacks. To answer your question more specifically, get atleast 2 Assault firgates to contend with the victories. It still doesnt mean you will win, but atleast now you have a somewhat balenced force. Get moncals if you can, but its not a must.
