New Star Wars MMO in the works?
15:30, Apr 25th 2007 by Ben Parfitt
Reports suggest BioWare is working on Knights of the Old Republic multiplayer online title.
Widely celebrated as the best Star Wars game of recent years, rumours have emerged that RPG specialist BioWare is hard at work on an MMO version of its hugely popular Knights of the Old Republic franchise.

CVG reports that the latest edition of US games print mag EGM includes the snippet in its Rumour section. No confirmation has been forthcoming from the developer as of yet, but were the game to emerge it would almost certainly be a sure-fire contender to better LucasArts’ previous MMO outing, the troubled Star Wars Galaxies.

Knights of the Old Republic was a critical and commercial success upon its release on Xbox in 2003. Its fortunes were mirrored by an equally celebrated PC version shortly afterwards. Obsidian took over the reigns for the second instalment in 2005, which whilst failing to win over the critics was again another firm retail success.

EGM also revealed a couple of other BioWare rumours. Namely, that current PC-only title Dragon Age will also be heading to PS3, and that the as-of-yet unspecified DS game already in development at the studio will be a new instalment in the Baldur’s Gate franchise.

I'm hoping there'll be a single player campaign that continues the KotOR series storyline. KotOR III if you will.

Actually, I wouldn't mind if there was no singleplayer for KotOR III (and that the multiplayer did not actively change the story). A duology and a loosely connected MMO doesn't sound like a bad franchising idea.

I would actualy mind. Since Kotor 2's signature ship was the Ebon Hawk. But if there is an MMO I wouldnt want to see the galaxy full of Hawks

Actually, as Terracentral said, I too would mind. See, a paralel episode of Kotor on MMORPG could be neat (note "could"). But a Kotor III is a *must* for singleplayer.

I'm a little late, but I wouldn't mind seeing this happen. I think it would be a much more successful outing than SWG because everybody wants to be a Jedi, and in this game there are thousands of Jedi across the galaxy, where in the SWG timeline they're supposed to be all extinct. It would be nice if it had a single player component, but either way this would probably be something I would try out if its in fact true.

Source: MCVUK Considering how we now know that BioWare's Nintendo DS game is actually going to be a Sonic RPG that completely invalidates one rumor and of course makes me think that the other rumors EGM/OXM published (or whomever started this stuff that every gaming publication seemed to pick up on) don't have any merit to them either. :dozey:
