Hello all,

A quick question. From what I've been able to search, it appears that to make a good looking portrait for a head modification, you need to take a screen shot, however, I can't seem to find a good place where the camera angle is right and it's becoming alittle frustrating. Is this the only way to make a proper portrait or is there some other method that is easier that I'm missing? If there is no other method, where do you folks like Kristy and Inyri get the shots for the portraits?

A good way to get a good angle is to start conversation, then wait until the camera is on your character's head. You just want to do this in a place that's well lit. For instance trying to get a good screenshot in the shadowlands probably isn't going to work that well for you.

What I normally do, though, is I load the head model into my modelling software, take an image at whatever angle I want, then manually add in the hilights and shadowing. Tedious, to be sure, but you do have a little more control. When I'm lazy, though, I just take a screenshot like you mentioned. ;)

If you're really set on having a certain angle/pose, you'll probably want to open it up in gmax or 3DS Max with the rigging intact and pose it yourself. You'll only get certain poses in-game, so you are a bit limited.

Well, since I don't have gmax or 3DSMax, I guess I'm kinda hooped, lol. Oh well, I guess It's back to frustration time ;).

Hey Inyri, since you posted here and I have your brief attention, have you considered doing a portrait pack for your PMHC01 re-skin? I love the new goatee and lack of scar on the lightside, and your darkside transitions are awesome! I just thought that portraits would really finish off the MOD. Anyway, just like T7 and cHainZ, you and Kristi have inspired me to try modding.... I really didn't want to go grey this early ;)

You can also get fairly decent close-ups of characters by using another party member as a camera man. Enable solo mode and switch to a character with normal vision, move close to the one you want to take a picture of, enter First Person Look mode (caps-lock toggles it as standard) and then take the screenshot there.
