Umm... This maybe a little late but I have an idea for the PC's past.

Make the PC come from the Sith Empire, but an incedent made him want to jump ship and get away from the Sith. He would get refuge in an enclave, but his NPCs don't trust him because he was from the Sith. I would think this would add spice to the influence, NPCs, dangers of the Darkside meathods, and his/her past. Tell me what you think!

hmmm, i actually kinda like it.
i Was thinking originally about having more than one PC area to start from, but would be almost the exact same storyline. eg: one PC would be from the sith, another would be a jedi ect.

why don't you come over to the forums and check out the stuff thats already happening?

i'll get back to on your story idea soon, cus i'm thinking that it might go really well with the "dark and Sinister" plot i'm developing.

ANY suggestion ANYONE has are ALWAYS welcome!

Just a Thought but with the sith empire thing u could make it so that you start in the sith empire, and you can work your way up the ranks to become the emporer and you can either become an evil sith or sabotage their operations, maybe a small jedi guerilla group half way through confronts you and you have to decide whether you want to be light or dark and that determines the rest of your game

Well as this is not my mod, this is not really for me to say, but that ruins that whole point of the game, the game was created so you could gain alignment points and go either light or dark, but throughout the whole game, not just the first bit. :blast5:

it is an interesting idea, but I'm afraid that master zionosis is right. . .
Part of the fun was deciding wether to go the light side or dark side at the beginning.
(or close to)

Hey everyone!
This is a major announcement. BIG TIME!

more people have joined the team including a couple of modders, so Mando ain't on his own anymore.
Also Voicing has commenced as of today! so if you are interested, come on over and sign up on the forums! we have many a character open!

And THIRDLY!!! the story has made some MAJOR breaks! so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE go take a look!

You're worried way, way too much about the whole copyright thing. There's only one Star Wars fan project that's been shut down by Lucasfilm, and it was porn. Aside from that, importing resources from another game is just as illegal as plain old modding, but is frowned upon by the people who run this board so would prevent you from mentioning anything about your mod around here.

I will be honest. I expect this mod to be as successful as every other Total Conversion mod that was based on "a great idea" from someone with no previous mod experience. Should it get anywhere past the planning stage I hope you've got plenty of editors to make the script something people are able to read without their heads exploding. I just wanted to make sure paranoia over Lucasfilm lawsuits didn't set in when what you should be gripped by is a paralyzing fear somewhat akin to "Dear sweet mother of PIE, what did I get myself into?"

I'm not to worried about copyright as they are Editing and Changing the game files. But if Lucasarts do decide to shut it down that that will be a real blow, because we will have to accpet thier decision.

And to let everybody know i am going to help with the mod. I am a scripter but i can do armour, robes and MODULE editing.

I have not released any mods yet but i do have some good ones waiting for the right time ;)

Well, thats great, as i am the only module editor on this team and i cant do them all on my own

Ohh, and i'm also pleased that you can script, as this is one of my weak points.

We are going to make this mod. plain and simple.
but yes it's nice to know we probebly won't get shut down, cus that would suck.
you don't seem to have much hope for our success though. . .well you all just have to give us a Chance!
it's only been a few weeks since we started anyway, so it's not like we want to release the game next month or something, we have a more or less "doible" timetable.
we really don't want to rush this project.

You do realise like Goldenflames, i know you are going to be eaten alive by copyright laws for a mod like this. First of all Lucas Arts will never allow a mod of this size to be released or displayed on their site unless you split i up like golden flmaes said again. i know of a recent example of a mod like this where the team were creating a halo mod for dawn of war so all the models characters voices etc, howeever that was shut down by order of microsoft they threatened legal action against the modders( i was a map maker for the mod :P) if they don't cease their mod the reason being is becasue microsoft was building Halo Wars. So you see Kotor 3 will be coming out supposedly 2009 this mod will take what 2-3 maybe 4 years. by the time you complete it kotor 3 will be getting distributed to all major stores for its release.
By all emans release a massive mod like this but the copyright fines and legal action against you will be horrific and not worth it.

so your only other option is as soon as you have finished, cleverly and cunningly separate the files and folders into different things like new worlds new robes clothes etc etc and then allow a readme file that shows how you put the mod folder together and activate it.

Thats one way to avoid changing all the names of characters robes lightsabers etc.

Well, we are not to worried about legal issues at the moment (as progress is happening), when the TC is released it will not be entitled something like "Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic III" it will be something like "SW:KotOR II TC", as LA encourage the community to Mod the games, it will be released as a TC mod. And to release problems the file size will not be insanely large as we are not recreating the engine and new data, as that is already in K2, the only thing that the TC mod will have in it will be all the stuff that goes in the game like: scripts, modules, VO's and gff files, so the whole mod will probably be around 700mb maybe more (and most of that is the VO's), so stuff like that is not much of a worry.

just be careful with it. If Lucas Arts and Bioware discover that you lot are amking a mod thats your own version of kotor 3 it will be considered competition and you will be told to stop or else like the faved halo mod team.


quote "700mb maybe more" if you intend on making whole new story and new items new sabers and new models and new structures and planets its guranteed to be larger than 700mb. a single planet and structures for a game like kotor is 200+mb on its own if done professionally.

Lord Anubis, the reason behind your Halo mod being shut down probably had a lot more to do with it stealing resources from Dawn of War than it did with the size of the mod. Amateur game modding should fall very comfortably under Fair Use laws, as long as you're using stuff you made yourself. But pillaging resources from one game so you can make a poor man's version of it for another platform is never going to go over well.

i wasn't a modder i was a world builder. Basically design and build maps and levels.

the modders spent 4 and a half years making skins models voices adding maps hiring testers making beta versions and also command and conquer had a mod tema like that whihc were also shut down. resources were not stolen.

this was not ameteur the mods were almost complete and were eagerly awaited by over 1000 people on the sites and forums.

You see Relic make dawn of war so nothing was stolen fromd dawn of war which wasn't already available for public consumption, the halo side of it was basically a patch to make halo models act as a new race within the game. Vehicles models voices everythign were being made frome scratch because micorsoft wo't give out their masterchief models easily.

so it wasn't amertur it was a pro job.

Ok, look.
we are at the moment NOT worried about the legal side of things.
this mod will NOT be named kotor III, it's name is kotor2 TC.( i just use the name K3 to make it simple. from now on it shall be referred to as K2 TC)
if it become necessary we can break down the mod into several smaller files, like you and golden flames said.

what we are doing is Extreamly simple.
we are doing retextureing and script editing.
DLg editing, and voice overs.
just the basic stuff that makes up ANY mod.
i personally doubt we are all that much of a threat to a team of hyper experienced game designers, and if it looks like the mod will come out right around the time K# does, we will simply wait a couple of months and then release it as K2 TC.

the point of this mod, is not to compete with anyone, but only to add an enjoyable game play experience for whom ever downloads it.

and yes. K# will be better than TC. Duh. they have the tools the experience, and the money.
we are doing this as an "add-on" mod. nothing more.

and think. how much of a threat could TC pose K3?
k3 will be amazing I'm sure, and I'm looking forward to it emensly.
the other thing about this mod, is that it is helping US (the people making it) to get better at what we do.
i plan to be doing game designing as a living, so this is a very nice first step for me.
i can't say why anyone else on the team wants to do this, but mabey they will post here and tell us. ^_^

THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE FUN!

an everything we use will be from K1. a few "home-made" textures items, models, are all the new stuff we are going to have.

Well, my reason for joining is the same as yours riddick.

@Lord_Anubis, new models and new structures, i am not aware that we will be, it is impossible to create new party members as the animations get screwed up on import, so there wont be any of them, basic non animated models maybe, but not too complex, same goes with the planets, we can't create completely new ones, so we re use the ones already in the game, we just re texture them to make them look different.

yup thats right i'm back, better and badder than ever! WHOO HOO!

so first off, the forums are working again, and we are making SERIOUS headway on the storyline, however we are in desperate need of modders willing to put some time in to getting the TC running.

we need:
Map editor/creator
Texturer
Modeler
Re-skinner
Item creator/placer
Modual builder
scripter (as in code, not story writing)

if anyone with these talents want to help out and join the project, we'd get this done a lot quicker. ^_*

also, we will soon be able to release our first teaser vidio trailer, so i'll keep you all updated on that.
