In KOTOR1, i'm trying to figure out how to change the stealth unit belts into armbands so I can still use stealth and get the benefit of wearing belts as well.
I have KOTOR tool and already have found the 5 different stealth units and edited them in the GFF editor. I can change the base item to "forearm bands" and it will appear in the game correctly but I don't know how to make the stealth icon at the bottom of the screen available in-game. Under properties in the GFF editor I see theres a "activate item" action but I haven't got it to show the stealth option in game no matter what i've tried. Any ideas?
EDIT: I've also found the baseitems.2da file and tried changing the properties of "stealth_unit" to the properties of "forearm bands" and still no success. I can get the stealth unit to appear in the armband slot in inventory and make it look like an energy shield but it doesn't work like a stealth unit because the stealth icon isn't at the bottom of the screen and I can't use it like I would an energy shield either because it doesn't appear on the bottom right where energy shields or adrenaline boosters would either. I have a feeling there is one more file I need to edit but I don't know which one. As Jar Jar Binks would say, "Any help here would be hot".

I think the easiest way around this would by to add a bonus feat, specifically the Personal Cloaking Shield feat. This is one of GOTO's feats but it will still work for you. All it does is allow you to enter stealth mode without a stealth generator. Which is all you wanted right?
GO-TO? I'm talking about KOTOR1. There is a force move called camouflage in the game files but I don't think it was ever used in the game and I have tried tieing the item into that move but that won't work anyway because I need a way of turning it on or off and also I want non-force characters to be able to use it too not just jedi.
All i'm trying to do is make it so the stealth unit is selected from the forearm items rather then the belt items. I can do that except the button for turning stealth mode on or off at the bottom left of the screen doesn't appear when the stealth unit is equipped for the forearm. Everything else appears to be fine.
Oh sorry, i didn't read this properly. Use the Force camouflage feat then.

I guess you didn't read this part carefully either :nut:
well, this one is quite easy for me so i'll have a go at explanation.
since you already got them ingame, i'll just tell you what to do with the item editor. once you open it up, double click on the new row in the "properties" tab and the 'item property editor' pops up. chose "skill bonus" from the topmost drop-down menu. from the second one, choose "stealth". then, in the last menu, choose any value between +1 to +10.
hope that helps :)
I am really surprised the Force Camo doesn't work. Juhani is able to use it, and does later in the game.
The Force Camo feat is just window dressing, it doesn't actually do anything (like Bastila's Battle Meditation feat). Juhani can stealth at will since she has a stealth belt placed in her (invisible) creature hide inventory slot.
As far as I am aware you cannot change the item type of the stealth belts, since the game appears to be hardcoded to look if an item with the base item type of a stealth belt is equipped to enable the stealth button.
There is nothing preventing you from modifying a stealth belt template to add item properties to it like a normal belt though. If you feel up for it you could even modify every single belt in the game and change its base item to the stealth belt type instead. That way any belt you equip would allow you to enter stealth mode, and I can't think of any ill effects caused by doing this since both types go in the belt slot.

No this doesn't work otherwise all the stealth belts except the regular "stealth field generator" would have worked because they all have skill bonus stealth +#. I made sure to try it anyway though and I was right, unless there's something i'm overlooking?

I AM SO SHOCKED. I thought for sure this would work but it didn't. I even tried giving a stealth bonus too, still nothing. ARRGGH FRUSTRATING!!!!! I just tried to modify the first belt (cardio-regulator) and changed the base item to the other "belt" that stands for the stealth_unit and nothing. WHAT AM I OVERLOOKING! *calm. OK, thanks for the help all, i'm not giving up yet.
Edit: Nevermind this ^. Apparently it did indeed work. My problem was when I tested this I didn't completely reload the game so the change didn't take effect. I've been doing so many changes that I didn't want to Exit the game completely and then reopen it since its so annoying. I was just exiting to the main menu and then reloading a quick save to test stuff and it worked for most of the changes I made so I assumed it worked for all. I guess not :) .
I still wish I could make this an armband but changing all the belts will get me by with what I want to do.
Thanks stoffe -mkb-

What about doing this for every character? Would that be possible?
