Does that mean you can actually form together in lets say GC and work together crushing the Empire??

dunno, I sorta hope so.

No, I'm afraid not. This was asked and answered in the developer chat. The meaning behind that quote is that in the course of the single-player campaign the Consortium occasionally has the same goals as the Rebellion and/or the Empire, and so technically speaking works with them for brief periods of time. In the Galactic Conquest and Skirmish games it's every faction for itself.

ah ok. Thanks Darth Anarch. In the end...having the ability to form an aliance would cause serious unbalancing issues.
