Can I convert this mod from TSL to Kotor 1?

Hmmmm... Usually I am familiar with this sort of stuff in other games, but the kotor layout kind of confuses me. The mod I am talking about is the female twilek exile, which is at http://knightsoftheoldrepublic.filefront.com/file/Female_Twilek_Exile_Appearance;67084)

My guess is there are differences in the Kotor 1 and Kotor 2 directory structure and file names structure, so with the correct tweaking of stuff, this mod could be compatible or at least somewhat compatible with Kotor 1. Is this correct?

Now, my question is what exactly needs to be done to do this. If you're knowledgeable on this sort of modification, I would very much appreciate your assistance.

Thank you

Well you could definitely not use the robe or other clothing because those models aren't in K1... I'm not sure if the appearance model is in K1 or not. If that head model is included in KoToR 1 then the mod could probably be compatible.

If the correct files for that model are in K1, then you would have to edit all of the appearance files that are included with that mod by adding any new lines to their K1 counterpart of the file. I'm guessing appearance.2da, heads.2da, and portraits.2da would be the files you would have to edit to get the head to be selectable.

Yes I see, and I don't think it works with kotor 1 as is because there are graphical glitches such as headless characters. And 2da are definitions files, right? Does anyone know what the kotor 1 counterparts can be?

I just meant take the changes in the files from TSL and put them in the K1 version of the files, they have the same name, like appearance.2da is in both K1 and TSL.

So, how should I change the 2da files? What program is used to open them and how must I modify them to work with Kotor 1?

EDIT: Woops sorry for double post BUT

I am using Microsoft Excel to open the 2da files and I can see all the definitions good. Now if someone would be so kind as to tell me what to change, or what is recommended, I would greatly appreciate that.

If you don't have Kotor Tool Go get it from StarwarsKnights.com. This tool includes a built in 2da editor and you won't have to worry about converting it back and forth from excel to 2da. Kotor Tool will also give you direct extract ability from all of the resource files.

Kotor Tool will let you access just about everything in both KotORs. I don't know how Excel is in regards to editing .2das, but for modding, Kotor Tool is by far the superior. You need to install Microsoft's .NET Framework for it to work, though. You can get that from Microsoft's site.

Anyway, as for the Twi'lek PC, her models aren't in K1 so you can't convert it at all. However, you can make your own female Twi'lek PC if you want-- http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?t=149992) will step you through what you need to do to make a female Twi'lek PC. Or you can find a mod for it--I know there are some out there that allow you to play all the colors and unique Twi'leks in K1.

Oh so you are saying that I can have a twilek mod and then apply the skin to it? But the other clothing wouldn't work because those models aren't in K1...

Hmmm.... so where can I find a twilek mod? And I guess it is possible to put k2 models in k1?

This is totally off topic, and for that I apologize, BUT ( :p ) where can I find that wonderful saber the twi'lek is holding?

It's gorgeous!

No, you can't apply the skin to it because that's porting and porting is Bad. It's illegal to move game assets from TSL to K1. So you're out of luck on turning stoffe's Twi'lek PC into a K1 PC.

But, you could find a Twi'lek mod--ask for one in the Mod requests...I wish I knew where the Twi'leks I have for K1 came from specifically--I know I got them in the Holowan Plug-in, but that's a big mod just to get a Twi'lek PC.

Anyway, you could also try reskinning a K1 Twi'lek so she looks like the K2 Twi'lek PC.

(mjpb, I think stoffe said the lightsaber was personal use only...it IS pretty tho', innit...)

Hmmmm... Usually I am familiar with this sort of stuff [porting mods] in other games, but the kotor layout kind of confuses me. The mod I am talking about is the female twilek exile

As others have said in this thread I don't think it's possible. The mod uses modified body models for the robe, underwear/clothing and dancer outfit and, legality issues aside, the model format used in KotOR 1 and 2 are incompatible. Even if that was no problem KotOR1 don't have any body model slot for the dancer outfit so you'd have to leave that out (not that it would be a great loss, but anyway).

(mjpb, I think stoffe said the lightsaber was personal use only...it IS pretty tho', innit...)

That's correct. Since the twilek saber is based on one of the USM saber models&textures originally which I've modified a bit, and isn't something I've made from scratch myself, I can't release it to the public. It would have fit nicely with the theme of that character since that's what it was made for, but this is how things are I'm afraid.

Maybe if I get good enough at modelling some day to be able to do things from scratch rather than just tweak existing models I could remake it and release it, but as it is now that feels rather unlikely. :)
