Modding Limitations/Difficulties/Irritations

I, like many in the modding community, have the mindset of "if you don't like it, shut up and fix it!" Sometimes, however, it proves to be a daunting, if not impossible, task.

I like KotOR. A lot. So much so that I want to fix some parts I don't like, just so I can play it more.

Let's take Bastila, for example. You either love her or you hate her. I think she could have been done much better, less "let me harp on you about the perils of the dark side, and become Darth Bastila five minutes later" and more "I think I might question the infinite wisdom of the Jedi council! Hey, emotions are cool!" I've practically got the dialog all written up, but... that stupid full voicing goes and mucks things up! Yeah, the voicing is great and all, but what if I want to change what people say?

I appreciate the efforts that have been made so far, but you can only have so many different colors of lightsabers and underwear before you get bored and want something more.

Any other limitations that annoy you to no end? Is there anything we can do about them?

If you want to have Bastilla voice new lines you can go about it two ways.

1. Load up all her voice files and cut and paste bits and pieces to make the new lines you have created.

2. Recored all her new lines yourself. Or get someone who can mimic Jennifer Hales voice and get them to do it.

3. Decide its to tough and just have non voiced dialogues.

I would much rather make in non-voiced, but it would look kind of funny if I didn't chuck the lip-synchs too. Copy paste is possibly the best option, but it would be really risky, and there are some words that she just DOESN'T say. It would be possible for me to do ALL her lines, but jeez, that would be an insane amount of work, plus I'd probably have to invest in a better computer mic so her new voice didn't sound terrible.

Full voice is awsome, but yes, it does present a problem to modders. You could make her talk in an alien language that you record yourself, you could even have the player ask her why she doesn't speak basic. That would probably be the easiest way to get her the way you want her without taking out her voice (well you would be taking out her original voice but she would still be speaking). Anyway, good luck whatever you do!
