I've always liked Homeworld. I don't really know why I like it though.....maybe because it in space and has a 3d map...
I probably would have picked AoE but I never got to play it all that much.
Does anyone know if the new Dune game is any good?

cool kvan. i hear you on homeworld, great game but i don't play it much b/c some of those missions are tough!

however, my favorite rts game is starcraft, just b/c of battle.net battles and 1vs1 with buddies. i also though the original warcraft II as well as warwind II were good.......

with the looks of swgb, i think it could be my favorite......

StarCraft is one of the best games EVER made.....I just got tired of playing over, and over, and over again. Whats Warwind II?
It's sad that blizzard is holding back WCIII again:(

The Conquerors, well, that is AoK. I wish the patch was better *sighs*

BTW, I think all of you have noticed I have traumatic issues about the green snow. Well I'm not that bad, but I simply don't like it

warwind II had two human races and two UGLY looking alien groups. that game was cool b/c it had fences that were electric and would make a siren like sound when intruders entered. it was a solid game, but not as good as starcraft

warcraft III won't be out til sometime next year.

THE ICE WAS WHITE!!!!!!!

BTW: My fav RTS games:

1: Age of Kings (patch was great, but original music was better)
2: Alpha Centauri (although it is 1/2 Turn Based, 1/2 RTS)
3: Gotta love SimCity3000.
4: STARSIEGE! (It's sort of RTS)
5: Homeworld
6: StarCraft
7: Command and Conquer series. (favs were Red Alert, and Teberian Sun)

Personally I think Galactic Battlegrounds will blow AOK away. I have been hoping for a great SciFi RTS, but I have been hopeing even more for a StarWars RTS!!! When I looked for an Aliens vs. Predator upgrade and saw an ad for Gallactic Battlegrounds, I immediatle started finding more info.
Great Stuff. SWGB will be great, for it appeals to a scifi audience along with StarWars people.

yeah, you can get tired of the ancient weaponry used in the game sometimes. with sci-fi weapons, you know more units are going to have long range capabilities which makes this game more strategic than not.........

About the Only two I own are StarCraft and Brood War, (actually my brother owns them), so I'll go with that. GB looks to be an ass-kicker, though. Maybe not groundbreking, or an instant classic, but deifinetly a decent StarWars RTS for a change.

Did they want to make it green or did they screw up the patch?
So does this mean I all I have to say is "The snow....is green" and it will throw you into a rage? Have I found your weakness?:)

Which wha what?
I think that you must have a differnet patch!

Yes, all open ground is green, except for dirt and coasts. ICE is white. The kind of ice that covers WATER. When you go into the scenario and try to put snow on water, you get ICE. ICE is crossable, and impassable by ships.

Total Annihilation plus its Core Contingency pack
The first game to use 3d units and terrain that I know of even though camera was always in the same angle and the modesl were blocky(its ok they are robots)

It used Gravity to determine of far a weapon's fire went :) and the 150 different units just for the game alnoen not including downloadable ones form the developers, not including 3rd party add on ones. Planes moved like planes *joy* oh and offensive turrets are a plus gotta love using Big Bertas to shoot hot plasma across the map is always fun.

Hey nobody here mention TA I guess the are all on the Emperor: Battle for Dune boards now

i just love AOK and The Conquerors. so that explains a bit why i'm going ape over GB, since i love SW as well..
AOK has a really nice 'real world feel' to it. that's what really draws me in. you know, where the units actually look like humans and not some super-deformed cartoon-hero..

My list:

1. Shogun: Total War ( half Rts, half turn based)
2. AoK + conquerors
3. Alpha Centauri (half Rts, half turn based but not the same half as my first choice).
4. Homeworld

leon, i just saw conquerors today at the shop and read into it. i didn't know units could take cover with battering rams? i don't know, i think starcraft is still my fav, but AoK is a close second and homeworld third........

Jay, yeah, units can be garrisoned inside those rams. that's why i think they'll let stormtroopers hide in ATAT's and transports.. after all, that's what they're for !

i went through several stages with RTS-games.

first it was Dune 2 (played that a WHOLE lot...), then it was Warcraft, then Warcraft 2, then Command & conquer, then Red Alert, then a whole period of Starcraft, then Total Annihilation (played that a whole lot too), then Age of Empires and a brief stint with Red Alert 2. Age Of Empires has ruled my pc since it came out.

i think i played almost every RTS out there, except for Homeworld..

Man, i can't decide whether to pay 50 bucks for it. Tell me honestly, is it really worth that much as old as it is and with GB coming out?

this is the last time i tell you: yes !!!
honestly, this is post-wasting.. go buy it. now.

and while i'm at it, let me add another RTS to that list i played: Tiberian Sun. But i played i very briefly. didn't like it at all... it was slooooooooow....

yeah, i heard tiberian sun wasn't so hot. but AoK is a definite buy, and if you're gonna get it, definitely go out and get the expansion the conquerors.........

Paragon Leon: Yes the units are small but that does not hurt the overall look on the battlefield. The real time battles look much more lika a sim than a game, its breathtaking.

Imagine up to 1920 warriors on each side with incredible map detail, sound details like arrows passing buy, dead bodies everywhere....

The first time you battle during a thunderstorm, you will probably loose. You will forget your army and just stare in disbelief, drooling on your keyboard.

Age of Mythology ...

Altough that game is still in the making, it makes me drool more than GB ... It's from Ensemble and Ensemble games are my favorite (rts) games.

After that comes The Settlers of Catan, it's a board game, but not a bored game ... and it is stratagy (altough turn based)

Rebellion, Worms armageddon ... they're a tottaly different kind of stratagy but that's because I don't like all those other RTS games as much (C&C, SC) AoK: TC currently is just the best!

Paragon_Leon: Nope MP aint that good, mainly because of the server on Ea MP, a lot of freezing and "drops". Most of us don't play comp games because of these problems, just friendlies.

The game is considered "complicated" by a lot of young players, no head on rushes in this game(you will loose). Like a sim everything counts, morale, fatigue, season, temperature, map (woods, height on a hill for missile fire), proximity of the taisho (general), experience of your troops (honor), manoeuvers ( Attack from a flank or surprise attack from the rear =bonus), speed (cavalry charge=bonus), what type of unit you send against what.

Each "sprite"(unit) moves individually but you issue your orders on a squad basis. You can really get immersed in the atmosphere.

Like in a battle, the units do not always obey your order, they may rout and flee when the morale is low or get "impetious" and attack without orders if they gey too cocky and sure of themselves.

But if you are still interested in the game wait a couple of days and get the warlord Edition , it's the original game + the new ex-pack together.

OK i may be new here but i am going to put in my two cents.

favorit 5 (in no real order)
Rebellion
Force Commander
Armada
Star Trek Away Team
Baldur's Gate II

I liked the game play of AOEII but i could never get passed that graphics. (Every Civ looks the same.)

In Force Commander they let you put 6 stormies into an AT-AT. It was one of the best ways to take over buildings.

Wraith5; welcome ! and by all means, don't let your 'newbie'-feel keep you from posting...

I have ST Armada, but it's so incredibly bugged i couldn't even get past mission # 5. that's just plain bad... i tried multiplayer but only finished one game because it constantly crashed.

The ATAT-feature is one i really hope they did.. it's a golden opportunity !
