i have never seen engines or any thing of the matter on it in the movies so does any one know?

Though you can't see it, it carries light and sub-light engines for long and short range travel.

cmon Moeller, TK answered it correctly, and I have provided reference material... it is far from a mystery! Of course the DS needs hyperdrive and sublight, just as the Falcon needed them to make the trip from Alderaan to Yavin

Agreed, while Jedi and Sith may have the Power of the Force, Goerge Lucas has something far more powerfull, something known as

The Power of the Script

And that's what moves the DS.

Ever see those videos of Carl Sagan demonstrating gravity by rolling bowling balls and ping-pong balls on rubber sheets? It moves like that. It rolls. Hence the sphere. Duh.
