This is the mission where you have to stop the shuttles from reaching the corruptor. I'm having a difficult time with this one--by the end of the game, my entire fleet is destroyed almost, and reinforcements take forever. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I also found this to be one of the hardest missions. my only advice is to try to avoid taking fire from the Frigate (you CAN destroy it for points). Practice and more practice.

save your missile until the end.

Gary's right try not to take fire form the frigte, but if you can stay close and just fly around it. as soon as the shuttles come out of the hanger take them out with some torps (3 i think), as soon as the three shuttles are gone, you should complet the mission. All you have to do is get your @ss home in one pice!!!

Good luck!!!

Damn...damn...damn...I just typed all this out, but my blasted computer locked up as I hit post...damn...damn...damn.
But because I'm nice, and I like this mission I write it out again. http://www.xwingalliance.com/forums/smile.gif)

This is a hard mission, but it can be completed simply. Here is what I do.
Easy setting (note that Medium and Hard, are as you would expect, not this easy http://www.xwingalliance.com/forums/smile.gif)

1. At the beginning of the mission you have to take out all the transports...don't bother, your wingmen can handle them without too much trouble. Instead concentrate on the Xiytiar Transports, which while not very powerful, are the most dangerous ones there and may cost you a wingman or two...
Completely ignore the Nebulon B and the transport nearest to it.
2. Attack the Xiytiar's with Guns Only. You should have absolutely no trouble in taking them out.
3. Once you have cleared the area, Hyper to the next one. As soon as you arrive, forget everything else and immediately locate the Frigate.
4. Dumbfire your Torpedoes into it. If it somehow survives (usually on the higher difficulty settings) just put a few shots in it to finish it off.
5. Once the Neb B is out of the picture, find the transport that jumped with it (there is usually one). Put it in a target pre-set (Shift-F5).
6. Then you can do a bit of dogfighting while you wait for the shuttles to arrive...even though they are carried by the Frigate that you already destroyed... http://www.xwingalliance.com/forums/confused.gif...(yet) another bug).
7. When the Shuttles turn up (it isn't that long of a wait), forget everything else and destroy them.
8. With the shuttles destroyed, you only have to take out that remaining transport. Hit F5, and destroy it.
9. Do a victory roll and bug out. Mission Objectives Completed.

If you are a bit more adventurous...

10. Before the transport is destroyed order your wingmen to attack the ISD (target it then hit tab-7-2)...this does two things...1: Stops your wingmen leaving when all the mission objectives are completed...and 2: means that you still have wingmen later http://www.xwingalliance.com/forums/smile.gif)
11. Destroy the transport, then attack the ISD. Take it out in the usual way.
12. As soon as the ISD is destroyed a Modified Neb B will appear, with several flights of very hard TIE/In. If there are any X-Wings left, they will usually target them, but also order your some of your wingmen to attack as well.
13. You and the remaining wingmen should go and attack the Frigate.
If you do not have any wingmen left then I would advise against this. Those Modified Frigates are damn tough to take out with a single fighter.
14. Once you have destroyed the Frigate and all the remaining TIE's...do a victory roll and bug out. All bonus points achieved.

Hope this helps...I kind of rushed it second time around.

If you are in a B-wing, and are trying to take it out with lasers, make sure you are flyinh faster then 80 MGLTs, also try to attack the cap ships from the Top, and point yourslfe just behind the nose at a 45 degree angle down. Most cap ships have thier lasers arraged for Hellish broadsides, so attack from the top front.

With 3 lasers, and 3 ion, a few shots at long range are enuf. Dont forget to disble!

How the hell can the fleet be destroyed, at least those that don't abandon the mission. what the @$%#!!!!! I can destroyed 90% of the shuttles, and the convoy, and the next thing I know, everyone is gone and the imps are waxing my ass, with the backup I requested no where in site.

Once there are no transports left, your wingmen (B-Wings) will bug out, even if you haven't destroyed all the shuttles.
The only ships that remain are the X-Wings, since they usually get caught up in fighting the ISD (and they are of absolutely no help to you because you cannot order them about).

The easiest solution to this is to order your wingmen to ignore any remaining transports (target a transport & Shift-I), until you have destroyed the shuttles. That way they will not leave early.

Don't bother with the backup. They take forever to get there, and are usually only Y-Wings (though occasionally they are A-Wings).

Or X-Wings. But reinforcements usually suck. Whenever they arive, they always seem to get shot down within a minute. On the bright side, it draws fire away from you, but it's annoying to see something that's taken a few minutes to arrive suddenly shot down.

Why is it that whenever someone says SOL I am always in trouble... whether it be Standards of Learning or (the other version). I'm always screwed.

I made a slight error in my earlier post. I've just reflown the mission on Medium, and if you destroy the Frigate as soon as you enter the last area (the one with the Corrupter), the Shuttles are automatically destroyed http://www.xwingalliance.com/forums/smile.gif)

I made a film of the mission in case you are interested broham. Nothing fancy, just straight in, kill 'em all, and straight out again (god, I love the B-Wing http://www.xwingalliance.com/forums/biggrin.gif).

You can get it here (http://www.geocities.com/jingo24/ShuttleMission.zip).
