I recently bought a new videocard, a geforce 6800gt. But i only get about 100fps in jk2. I have a P4 3ghz cpu and 1gb memory. Anyone knows what is causing this low framerate ? A friend of me get's 280fps with a geforce 5950ultra. I already did com_maxfps 99999. i'm using the original nvidia drivers. Thx !

Have you gotten any of the available patches for the game?

Wait a minute, let me get this straight... You think 100fps is a bad fraterate? Framerate isn't even noticeable until it gets down around 30.

It is a bad framerate for that videocard, normally i should at least get 200 so something is wrong. I installed the 1.04 patch of the game so i don't know what could possibly be wrong anymore...

i usually play with 90 but i notice it when it drops to 60
but still it would be useless to have any higher than 100 :doo1:

optimal framrate for q3 based games is 120fps to aid in strafe jumping. anyway, other things that might be affecting your fps are cpu speed, your motherboard, and ram.

Are you sure? I thought it was 43, 76, and 125 FPS that does that.

Many places. I always see/hear people say that due to a numerical error in the engine or some such, frame rates locked at 43, 76, or 125 affect movement in some way, aiding in strafe jumping and the like.

Yeah Quake 3 engine is capable of 120FPS, usually not higher than that. Besides you've already got 100FPS why bother? You wont notice any difference between 100 FPS and 200 FPS.
