This morning ATi released their new line of video cards, the X1K (X1000) series of video cards. Due for availability on the 10th of this month, the mid-level version of the X1K will carry a price tag of $499, with their high-end X1800 Pro and X1800 XT versions coming out at the end of November. For more information on what I think is a monster of a card (which is saying a lot from an nVidia fan), please see ATi's gaming cards site. (http://ati.com/products/gamer.html)

I apologize in advance if this is in the wrong section.

i'm also looking forward to this launch for two reasons: first, i think i can trust ATI to put out a great card, and second, it might mean lower prices on the GeForce 7800 series (in case the X1K's suck). the only thing that gets me is why ATI snubbed people out on the pixel pipes. rumors were originally stating that it was supposed to get 32 but instead we get 16??? well, i guess benchmarks will tell all eventually, but i still think ATI snubbed everyone out on that one. otherwise, i'm definately looking forward to this. :D

and i think this thread can stay here. ;)

..... it might mean lower prices on the GeForce 7800 series....

I'm planning on getting a GeForce 7800 soon, so this is awsome news. I might have to hold off for a week or two and see if the price drops.

With my luck, it will drop a day or two after I buy it.

unfortunately due to a)budget and b)motherboard.. :( I'm only gonna be able to grab myself a 6600 gt agp. but come next year sometime... after tax return heh heh.. I'm gonna spring on a whole new top of the line system. so I'll keep my I on the new x1k series and see how it goes.

Interesting. I am planning to get a new card at the end of the year. I'll keep an eye on this one as well as on the GeForce 7800. But I may also end up buying a GeForce 6800 series. Anyone has found the power supply requirements for this new Ati card?

It depends on the core, but most likely less than a 7800-series, due to the 90nm process. My guess is that anywhere from 450w with a 35 amp 12+ and up would be enough to run one. However, the X1K's are looking expensive :ball:

i'm thinking the PSU requirements will be similar to the GeForce 7800: 350W min. for a single and 450W min for a CrossFire (duel cards) setup. although i'd recommend getting an additional 50W just in case. ;)

Gamespot's review (http://hardware.gamespot.com/Video-Cards-F-9-9-x-x) says that it compares to the GeForce cards the same as their predecessors, the GeForce 7800 took Doom 3, the Radeon X1800 XT (512 Mb) took Half-Life 2.
