LucasArts announced that it will showcase its new videogame Star Wars BattlefrontTM II at Ziff Davis Media's DigitalLife event in October of this year. LucasArts, a leading developer and publisher of videogames, will use DigitalLife to celebrate the November 1st launch of Star Wars Battlefront II, the sequel to the best-selling Star Wars game of all time.
Thousands of gamers and consumers are expected to attend the three-day DigitalLife (
www.digitallife.com) event, which will be held October 14-16, 2005, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City.
"The technology and video gaming industries have been looking for an event where they can introduce new products directly to consumers, at the same time as they reach the press and retail communities," said Paul O'Reilly, Vice President, Ziff Davis Media. "DigitalLife meets that need and we are delighted to see major brands like LucasArts take advantage of the unique opportunity."
As part of the celebration, DigitalLife will hold a nationwide tournament for Star Wars Battlefront II with qualifiers in four major cities across the United States. Gamers will compete in teams for the chance to be crowned the ultimate Star Wars Battlefront II champion and win a prize of $10,000. Additional details about the tournament will be coming soon.
"Star Wars Battlefront II fits perfectly with Ziff Davis' DigitalLife event, as each has grown to become something bigger and better than the already excellent offering before it," said John Geoghegan, Vice President of Marketing and Sales for LucasArts. "It also presents an excellent opportunity to treat gamers with an early look at what is destined to become the new best-selling Star Wars game of all time."
Star Wars Battlefront II will hit retail outlets nationwide on November 1st, day and date with the release of the DVD for Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, making November 1st a banner day for Star Wars fans.
Star Wars BattlefrontTM II takes one Imperial-walker step forward with all-new space combat, playable Jedi, and never-before-seen environments straight out of the Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith film. Fans of the original Star Wars Battlefront will also enjoy an all-new single-player experience that takes players through an epic, story-based saga centering on Darth Vader's elite 501st Legion of stormtroopers where every action the player takes impacts the battlefront and, ultimately, the fate of the Star Wars galaxy.
"Gaming was so popular at last year's DigitalLife that we're expanding the show by fifty percent this year just to accommodate the demand for videogames," said Scott McCarthy, President, Ziff Davis Media Game Group. "We're thrilled that LucasArts has chosen DigitalLife as a key marketing initiative for Star Wars Battlefront II - with the influx of gamers and press at the show this year, the launch should generate some great buzz for LucasArts."
Ziff Davis Media will promote the event in part through its market-leading Game Group media properties. Ziff Davis Media Game Group produces several of the industry's market-leading magazine publications including Electronic Gaming Monthly, Computer Gaming World and Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine, as well as its unique online destination for gamers, 1UP.com.
