Hey guys i just got the pc version and it slows down a whole in certain areas. The apartments, sandrals house, tatooine cantina and hunting club. Mainly just indoor areas with lighting effects and several npc's. I was wondering which would be better to use Intel Extreme graphics 2 with 64mb memory or a Geforcemx 4000. The Geforce has 32 mb memory. I dunno which would be better but i have an extremly tight budget so the vid card i buy needs to be under 100$ and it needs to be PCI bus not AGP.

My current specs:

Intel Extreme Graphics II 64mb
Intergrated sound
40 Gb maxtor 7200 rpm
1.8 GHz overclocked to 2.0 Celeron Procesor
384 mg Pc133 ram

I know my system sucks i had doubt it would even run kotor in the first place which is why it took me ages to finally buy it.

if you're not weary of buying online, go to pricewatch.com. I've found Nvidia fx5200 ultras for under $100. Using PCI you should be able to find them even cheaper.

The 5200 isn't the best card, but I have one in one of my systems at home and it seems to run ok. I think your biggest problem is RAM more than anything to be honest...

I have more than the recomended amount... Its 256 and i have 384... But anyways the slowdowns really bug me cuz this such a great im not gonna quit playing it but it just makes me suffer. But thanks for your help chainz.

RAM is okay but the Celerons are nasty. Also, integrated sound cards and video cards are quite crappy. That can also cause slowdowns.

Yeh i kno but I'm 16 i aint exactly got tha big bucks. Plus that computer is a two year old x-mas present. Im just questioning if a 32mb pci graphics card would be better than the 64 megabyte intergrated one i have. Sound is fine though... Its better than my friends and he bough a 3.1 surround card.

ahh, the age old problem of lack of funding. unfortunately, i know enough about it to have a fairly well paying job. (no implications intended ;) )

anyway, if your going to get a pci video card, all of them cost less than $100 these days (unless you live in canada). nvidia offers a couple in their fx series. i think they range from the fx5200 to the fx5600. ati offers the radeon 9200se and the 9600se. according to benchmarks, both offer about the same performance, with a slight edge going to the radeons. either way, you're in good shape since they'll run almost any game much faster than your integrated chipset.

i would recommend the older geforce 4 series of cards, but from the way you tell it, you don't have an agp slot available. hopefully, you won't get scrubbed out again on your next system.

edit: i stand corrected. i even found a pci video card that costs more than $150!! oh well, check out this site for pci video cards (the prices are generally really good. i use them all the time.)

Yeh im a teenager... I got a job but i gotta pay gas, car insurance, oil changes etc. So it takes me a long time to save enough money to upgrade my system. But yeah, i dont have an agp slot period. I got a dell 2350 , its a damn good running computer it just isnt exactly uptodate, and it was cheap so of course cheap parts were used, I.E. a celeron processor and mobo with no AGP slot.

I don't think the Geforce you talked about can run Kotor. You should wait and save up.

actually the 64mb will run it however you will need to turn down almost all of the extra's available for graphics this will avoid pc bog down. I ran a 32mb card for a while and it worked I just had to tweak my machine. Of note the same machine had a pentium 166mhz with 64mb RAM with no overclocking. But it had the I think i can syndrome. Talk about slow downs what you have wouldn't compare to that.

I'm guessing, but it probably is AGP.

On nVidia cards, it needs to be a PCX card to be a PCI bus. That's what I know at least.
