I will write a program to admin this great game, but I need to know some technical spec's.

If anyone can get me a contact with Pandemic, I can get the ball rolling.

I have already done a server manager for BF1942 and BFV and my software has been distributed on the BFV CD. I am rolling out my v2.0 software next week.

Here's a link to some screens of the new version:

Here's a link to my PunkBuster screenshot integration:

peace....

Well this is great news.

Brandon...you may want to make this same post in the TWL SWBF Forum (http://www.teamwarfare.com/forums/forumdisplay.asp?forumid=237). There is a dialog going there with a Pandemic Developer name 'Jens'. The TWL people are in direct contact with Pandemic and can probably help you out.

If this game needs anything it needs a server manager and remote manager. I am curious however if the current standalone dedicated server would work with a seperate server manager, you may have to wait (unless they give you access to the next version of the manager)

...good luck.

I believe that I Just pasted this post into the thread you are talking about?

http://www.teamwarfare.com/forums/showthread.asp?forumid=237&perpage=20&threadid=171178&page=3)

Is this the thread you were referring to? The person's name is Spytle.

I also looked up a number for Pandemic Media in Los Angeles and called and left a message. Heck, that might not be the studio... it's probably some porn distributor or something.

Anyway... if I can get an R-Con spec (if they have one) I could crank out a tool in a few days. I could make a complete client server in about a week or two. It's a good game with a lot of potential, but if admins can't control their server, they won't run the dedicated server.

well it seems the TWL admin has already responded to your post there so it was the right thing to do

Pandemic does have an office in LA (I live in LA too....maybe I should drive down there)

THANK YOU :)
Pandemic owes ya

Get in there and show them how its done.

Linux support?
(Are you familiar comfy with linux so that if they pump out linux binaries ((my preference)) I can still enjoy your new tool?)

Good Luck & GodSpeed

That just depends on what I want to do and how much time I can devote. The client will be a windows only client, since it will have a GUI. If i use .NET and write a console app for the server manager, it will be able to run on linux using the Mono rpms.

I have to see what's involved and how much time I can commit before making any promises though.

Brandon, if I may be so bold, I do think that if you do a tool for SWBF you may want to take a somewhat different approach than you did with BFV.

I think simplicity (in both features and GUI design) will be important at least for the first version. The more bells and whistles the more things that can go wrong.

Brandon, i'm familiar with your Server Managers for BFV (i'm on your beta test list and currently use it for BFV). When the time comes, i'd be willing to help you test out the managers for SWBF.

I'll help too if you wish. I created a manager/monitor for BF but I did not bother to release it cuz it did not do anything not already covered by other tools.

I whole heartedly agree with you and that is my plan. I'm not sure if you know, but I started teaching myself how to code in order to create the tools for 1942 and BFV. It's been over a year now and I've learned tons. I'm much more proficient and efficient and I'm still learning new things on a daily basis. I would do things completely differently knowing what I know now.

If I can get some info and get started, I will probably write up my development plans with a mockup GUI and post that on a website somewhere for ppl to critique and comment on. Once the design and featureset is aggreed upon, I will crank it out.

I understand wanting to see whats involved before making the commitment
FWIW
I admin my Linux boxes from Windows now
I just use a windows based SSH client (SecureCRT) to pull it off, and run screen sessions so I can 'detach' and keep it running to stdout
but still get a normal shell when needed.

So Windows only client side is (at least in my book) going to be handy.

I wish you the best!!!

I think I'll also add this in a seperate post for Modders/hackers -
BUT

Ethereal is a fine and free network sniffer
you can run it between your client and server, and probably get some questions answered that we havent thought of yet.

Ethereal (http://www.ethereal.com/)

Use BBO as a reference. It has a very simple design but yet is very effective.

Once we get that rcon spec here at Battlearenas it will be written in to our remote admin tool Multi-G which already supports both COD and MOHAA games. I keep meaning to support all the other games available, but it would make the tool far to bulky, so i just do it for the ones I play, which right now would be Battlefront! :D
