Hi, my name is Charlie a.k.a Boomer, and I love to play online I am 14, am an expert with photoshop, and am pursuing an early career in 3d art and/or Game Design. The thing is, i love using the computer to make things. I own a legal copy of 3ds Max, and am decent at modeling. I have completed several maps for Halo: Combat Evolved, but they have only been released to my fellow clan members. My point is, I know the basics of Mapping. (Skybox, Basic Texturing, etc.) But now i know and assumed that making maps for different games was going to mean watching or reading more tutorials, banging my head on the keyboard out of frustration, and maybe having a little fun along the way.

I want to design a map for the clan Jasa Website (http://www.jasacademy.com). I asked for their ideas, and they were very different. I know that i want to make it:
-a FFA map (i am pretty sure this is the easiest to make
-be fun to explore
-have bathrooms (this means making futuristic toilets etc)
-have a plaque in it with the Clan leader's name
-obviously i want it to be fun

I am still brainstorming, but any ideas would be appreciated.

So far i have downloaded the SDK.... the Gradiant Tool thing, and the models and animations package. What else do I need? Can you guys give me some links to tutorials? Does anyone know any good sites for textures, sounds, effects, etc? Also, I am horrible at texturing. UVW maps make my head spin. I might need a little help on that too.

So, its 2 am here, time for bed, ill check back in the morning. Thanks in advance!

The tutorial that got me all started what the one of RichDiesal right here:

http://richdiesal.jedioutcastmaps.com/tutorials/)
But you know the basics, so you won't need anything like that. I only use GTK Radiant @

http://www.qeradiant.com/)
I use EasyGen for the terrain @:

http://digilander.libero.it/ilbanca/files_easygen.htm)
And this turorial got me started using that program:

http://www.planetwolfenstein.com/tramdesign/tutorials/tut_easygen2.html)
You might want to check out www.map-center.com) also.

afaik, player models are the same height as the player spawn entities, or, 64 game units. 8 units is supposed to be something like 1 foot in real life i think.

Pick any one. Test will turn out a test map etc. To compile like Rich says, use Simulate Old Style.
