Hi gang im sure we all know what func_doors and func_glass is right?
Of course we do well i came up with a totally origional idea that i will be making a vid tuton. We will have a hanger door that has some glass up above it. When we blast the glass the door will open up. This is totally my idea but i want you all to learn from it. I have more ideas comming and i should have that vid tut later. enjoy.

okay here is a pic of the one i built for my level mine has a flashing red light behind it to let you know you got to hit me kinda. lol anyways heres the pic before its shot. oh and when you shoot the glass the door open at speed 10 wich makes it much more realistic. and would be even better with sounds.

What i think would be better, is if you shoot the glass, then a door closes over it, as if to block it up again, that would be good

Now I know why imperial battlestations and stuff have always been taken by the rebels that easy...
If you just need to shoot some glass to make a door open ...

ROFLMAO! Lwwiz, how old are you? I tried your first tutorial on starting a basic map. It's actually a good Idea I must admit. But it does need a lot more detail. And it's a little bit fast but I suppose you can always repeat the lesson.
You sound like you're about 14 years old...correct?

I think your first lesson should be how Radiant works and how to move around. Most NEW mappers will be so lost they will cry without knowing how the camera works. :D

Hmmm... video tutorials is a good idea, but you need a lot more 'helpful' ideas. Like maybe shooting a switch that opens a door, instead of glass. Something that someone could use in a single player mission. Perhaps the old lock and key trick? Or even how to press a button to open door. Its basic stuff, but its good for beginners who want to learn stuff.

I was thinking about making tutorials on how to do basic thing like make a door that works, or a button. Basic things like that, that new mappers want to know how to do.

I just watched your tutorial video about this just out of curiosity. It was rather funny because of your confusion between target and targetname. I suggest getting to know your subject well and try if your creations work before you start recording a video tutorial.

I personally think that you are doing a great work with your video tutorials. They may be very useful for all the noobs around. You should check the 3d-buzz site because they have some tutorials about the radiant and “Quake 3” mapping. There’s no sense to re-create the wheel.

There’re few advanced mappers here and the sarcasm was not about the tutorials but about your “original idea”, that frankly speaking was stu…. ehh, let’s say it was funny. You can create something that is sensible and more/less realistic.

Example: imagine that there’s a wall and if it breaks the door opens and the stormtroopers (alarmed by the broken wall) will enter the area through this door. This will give the player some fun because there’s something to break and some combat fun because there’s someone to kill.

I just hate to run thought the levels filled by the great number of incomprehensible and unreal puzzles. I don’t like to run and shot all the glasses around to pass to the next section, I prefer to destroy the door or to open it by using a switch.

Nevertheless, keep up your good work.

Umm you do know that Quake 3 mapping, and Jedi Academy mapping, are pretty much the SAME! They use the same game engine. The only difference is in one game you can do things, you cant do in the other.

yes i know that but 1 thing about my vids compared to 3dbuzz is you dont have to earn a star i just give them out for free. and soon i hope i will be able to get a pro mapper to do like a live video type chat over the comp while we do a mapping tut i havent quite figured out how i will do it but if you have any ideas email me with em.
