A friend told me the other day that Jedis werent supposed to have sex "for some reason".

I got rather curious, so here you have me... asking if its true that the Jedis cant have sex, and why??

Thx. :)

Attachment is forbidden. Possession is forbidden. Love is forbidden and therefore sex.

Anakin only said "Compassion, which I would define as 'unconditional love' is essential to a Jedi's life. So you might say that we are encouraged to love", as an excuse so he could get his leg over. :D

Uhm... I am assuming that any kind of physical attachment is forbidden then. Or is it spiritual attachment forbidden too? What about love for friends/family? How cant you be atached to your friends, for example? Even if Jedis live in celibate, its impossible not to have some sort of "reaction" to certain people.

And also, do Dark Jedis follow the same rules? What changes in a Jedi when they turn into the Dark side?

(sorry for all the newbie questions :))

These rules were changed by Luke after he started up the Jedi again seeing as how that rules placement was out of fear the first time around and because it had such contradictions as you stated.

Hmm, dark jedi probably do.
The sith seem too obsessed with power to have the time though they must since they interbreed with the original sith.
I imagine the jedi do as well they just see it as falling, as love invokes powerful emotions and that can lead to the darkside...

Tge Jedi code states that Jedi are not allowed to love, and even if so, should keep their emotions underwater.

Anakin was a clear-cut exception in this. His arrogance, and Dark-Sidishness infected his mind sent him for Padmй. Padmй didn't know much about the way of the Jedi and let Anakin love her. Soon, his emotion of love became lust and soon, the Skywalker twins were born.

Jedi aren't allowed to have sex since sex invistes lust, greediness, intoxicationg thoughts, dirtiness, "the feeling" and finally, anger due to betrayal. All of these factors open the door to the Dark Side, and what happens next? Anakin will explain...

Jedi are allowed to love, though. Nothing further than that. No sex, no compassion, no "encouragement to love" or anything.

I heard George might have said that casual sex is ok for Jedi, they just cant get attached. Boy youd have to be pretty shallow to be a Jedi if thats true.

Ahem. My apologies and thanks Weiser_Cain. :)

Also, things are getting confusing now too... How come George says casual sex is ok as long as the Jedi doesnt get attached? I mean... isnt it WORSE than having sex with someone you love? As JediNyt says... boy, thats shallowness!! ;)

So.. uhm.. some straight answer would be ok :)

Also... what about dark jedis (sorry, the same question again) cos i didnt really get if they can or cannot love. I also think that the logical thing is that they want the power of the force so much that they wouldnt even think of love/sex, as it wouldnt be in their plans, as long its not for a very specific reason, like... reproduce? :)

I believe JediNyt was joking when he said what he did, you'll have to forgive that, we are fairly light-hearted around here

I believe that if you are a jedi, sex is forbidden

as for the Sith, if they find time between all the plotting to overthrow the galaxy, they can do whatever they like. They run off of base emotions; hate, fear, etc.; so they can probably have sex, though I doubt that any sith really loves anyone other than themselves.

And force sensitives can probably love & get married and such, because they are only sensitive to the force & not governed by the Jedi Council or Code

hope that helps! :D

Actually I wasnt joking, I either read or heard that somewhere on starwars.com. I just cant remember where for sure. Regardless, Im sure George said it as a joke. And yes we are lighthearted around here. ;)

i didn't think the dark jedi even loved themselves. they love the quest for power and to make themselves better, stronger, more powerful. if they loved themselves, then, well that'd be wierd. IMO.

Found this (http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_588484.html). Looks like a realiable source to me.

But at a press conference to mark the launch of the fifth film Attack Of The Clones, which premiered in London last night, Lucas said: "Jedi Knights aren't celibate - the thing that is forbidden is attachments - and possessive relationships.

Hey, even Jedi need to "relieve some stress" after a hard day's work. :xp:

that's what masturbation's for... i would doubt that jedi would just rock up to a brothel though since they have morals and yada yada, it's a pretty fine line we're talking about here, what do they do, find some hot chick on bespin, screw her a couple of times then leave on some journey to the other side of the galaxy? XD lol. sounds fun but think about it... these are jedi's... men and women with principles.

we all be having the gooder grammers! Anyway, i know this is gonna bring up a whole THE EU IS NOT STAR WARS!!! conversation but... in the books when luke is starting his jedi academy, he does try to find some of the children of the jedi and there is actually a book based around it. So in conclusion, it's not "allowed" but it probably happens. And also if i happen to see a person making a pass at somebody using uhem... Jedi Techniques, could somebody send me an icepick? I live in singapore and they are illegal to buy because they are "weapons"? Well, i guess there's no need to sell icepicks here because theres never been any snow for the past 600 years.... :)

Well Jedi werent allowed to love in the old order because having intercourses were like dirty and unpure to them and also there was no need for reproduction in the old order cuz there were plenty of jedi but after all the jedi were wiped out and years later Luke restores the order he probably changed the sex rule because there were a lot less of the jedi and gene wise if two jedis got together and had a child the force should be in that child as well. sry for the grammar

*Bumpage*

Ok, wtf?!

"Sex is dirty and unpure"

spoken like someone who only thinks of sex as icky because their school told them.

Jedis could not have sex because love could lead to other emotions, stronger emotions like hate. (Yes, hate can come from love....) They say this in KotOR.

Why the hell would Jedi think sex is unpure? Jedis value life, and sex is actually a beautiful thing, although, you wouldn't know, you are probably told by your teachers "Sex is bad, never have sex it is yucky" :indif:

Just my 2 cents

actually i have never heard a teacher say sex is bad and i dont know how love could lead to hate and sex IS dirty if you are doing it in 'magazines' or whatever. i know more than people think

You certaintly do a good job of hiding it!

Sex is not dirty unless it is MEANT to be dirty. Regular sex is beautiful.... some things though, which I won't say to burn your virgin ears, are dirty, but they aren't really sex....

I dunno who told you sex is dirty, but do me a favor and hit them.....

Larz, I'm guessing you've never been in love? It does things with your mind, it ****s you up. When you have sex, you get even more attached to a person. Now, lets say your "lover" went and slept with another guy. How do you think you are gonna feel? That is why sex was not allowed, people can twist it so much and make it much more complicated then it is.

Lets say you had sex with her (HAH!). You'd be mad at here... right? See? You are confused, you though you (puppy) loved here, but she doesn't like you any more. Naturally, if you were a Jedi, this could get in the way of your missions.
