not really because it still needs to be the same shape. So, instead of a cool looking storm trooper helmet - it would be like the mandalorian helmet and such.

You get the idea.

If it were possible to edit models (which it isn't) then it could be done. But until the time when the developers release a model editor or a user figures out the format - we're stuck with retextureing (which is just changing the colors and such while retaining the same shape).
