((I like the idea and all that, but I do have one problem.

its not that he's not a good character, but if you role play him, there is zero room for you to anything but what he does from the movies/books on Hoth

rather to have a completely made up character would be more interesting, cus there is absolutely alot of room to do what ever))

Well yes you are right but this starts before Luke gets lost then we can skip that part and when the battle of hoth comes we do not have to do it the same way.
