In Starcraft, you had a long distance seige weapon (ie nuclear missles) They allowed you to reach out and touch someone in a vary destructive means.

I've never played AOE before so i was wondering if this was a part of that game and how this will make itself known in SWGB.

Artillery is a long distance siege weapon, very effective. Much easier to use than the nuclear attack

Could you provide a few more details . . .

Do you point in the general direction of the target and shoot?
Send someone in to "paint the target"
ect

Thanks

No, u don't need recon units to verify the target.

That's because the artillery unit is nothing like a nuke. It could be better defined when compared to a siege tank. It's nearly the same, except the artillery unit is much more effective on buildings rather than units.

Yes, and there are also "rams" which go up to buildings and effectively dismember them. :D

I assume the artillary has to be within a certain distance to the target to hit it.

What about long range weapons?

thanks

There are no "long-range" weapons such as nukes as of yet in this demo version. There may be, since we've seen screens of some sort of ion cannon for the rebels...

That ion cannon in the screen shot my just be a monument / eyecandy for the game. We will have to wait and see.

When I mentioned long range weapons, I ment more along the lines of missle launchers ect. What in the demo has the longest range?

Thanks

There aren't any superweapons if thats what you mean. Artillary has the longest range in the game.

It would not conflict with Star Wars cannon to place superweapons in the game (maybe in an expansion pack) I would of course argue that there would have to be some restrictions to them to ensure players don't rely simply on these superweapons to win the game.

For example . . .

Rebels:
Weapon: Ion Cannon

Effect: Disables all mechs for 15 - 20 seconds, reduces opponents shields 30 - 50 % (would have to be balanced)(melee units un-effected)

Usage: Weapon can only be fired once every 3 - 5 minutes (recharge time)

Required: Tech 4, 2 power cores, ect

Empire:
Weapon: Orbital Bombardment
Effect: destroys primary target as well as light to moderate damage to surrounding buildings, opponents shield can absorb full bombardment assuming shield is at full capacity

Usage: Like starcraft nukes, requires recon units to "paint the target", lock must be held for <length of time>, unit dies before strike lock is lost, bombardment can occure once every 5 - 7 min (vessel needs to complete orbit to come back into range ect)

Required: Tech 4, recon unit, enhanced communications tower ect.

Just some Ideas.

I would be very disapointed when they included Nuke-like weopons ... that's one thing I disliked from Star Craft

You never were on the giving end of the nuke though, were ya? :) It's sweet justice when you destroy all of your opponent's supply depots with one fell swoop. MWAHAHAHA!

you guys obviously didnt look at the tech tree did you?

Pummel- Ram
Artilllery- Onager

So there is an equivalent to the Trubuchet, that noone seemed to look for, well its there.....for the empire its the 'cannon' for the rebels its the 'ion pulse cannon' or some crap....

We should all take a few mins to review the tech tree and make the associations to AOK....its so similiar its not even funny, yet its completely different.....you will understand if you study the tree, trust me.

The giant Ion Cannon seen on Hoth was for disabling blockading ships so you could escape a planet. It'll be a hot day on Hoth and a cold day on Tatooine when you can use that big bugger against ground units  . However, smaller grade ion cannons are not out of the question.

Please excuse my reference to another RTS but it is the only thing I have to compare it to.

In WarCraft II you had catupults (sp?) Is the Trubuchet the same idea, just bigger?
