Well, I just got my Sam and Max disk. I haven't played the game in about 6 years, when it got stollen, along with the rest of my luggage. Anyway, I was super happy to get it, and in a version that would work on my current computer no less. Here's the problem though: As soon as I enter the tent at the carnival to talk to the owner, the voices disappear, and the game starts to run real slow and choppy. I have no idea why this is happening, but it's kinda frustrating. Anyone else having this problem?

Just use ScummVM (http://www.scummvm.org), and all your problems will flutter out the nearest open window. Maybe.

Will scum vm fix the problems with this new version? I was under the impression it was for the old release. Anyways, I'll give it a shot.

The resource files are the same so ScummVM will work fine with it.

I think S+M cd version is broke in current daily builds though, so make sure you use the proper 0.5.1 release of ScummVM.

Here's the problem I'm running into with Scummvm. Since this new disc doesn't install the game, but plays it directly from the cd, there isn't a directory to point scummvm at when you want to play the game. None of the directories on the cd-rom satisfy whatever it is scummvm is looking for when it asks you to add a game. So, the question is, what now?

Alrighty, so, despite my mental short-comings, I got Sam and Max working on Scummvm. Unforunately, it didn't help. The voices still cut out as soon as you enter the carnival tent to talk to the owners. Also, I found the voices up until that point sounded a little crackley, which I didn't notice when playing the game without Scummvm. So far as I know, the glitch only affects 2 points in the game, the carnival, and Conroy Bumpus's song at Bumpusville. The easy way around it is to just enable subtitles at the carnival, do everything you need to do there, leave, save, quit the game and open it up again from the save point. Voices will be back and will be fine for the rest of the game, except for the song, but oddly enough, it's only the song, the voices work fine before and after, it's just the song itself which gets muted. The front entrance of the carnival doesn't seem effected by the sound glitch, only the main tent, Trixie's trailer/cone of death, and sometimes the TOL, but it appears intermittent there.

Anyway, it's not really a huge problem in the grand scheme, I'm just happy to have Sam and Max at all, but it'd be nice if it worked properly. I've tried it on my Win2000 computer, and my friends XP and on both the voices cut out in the same spot.

Just got an email from Lucasarts. Seems that the preview disc for armed and dangerous had a burning error, resulting in the glitch. They're sending me a new disc as I type. I suggest that anyone having this problem, just email lucasarts support and let them know.
