I installed the official release for GTKRadiant today. I installed it in a custom directory and chose the correct "gamedata" folders for outcast and academy. When I go to open the program, I get the following error message.

g/XMakeCurrent failed
An unrecoverable error has occured
Would you like to edit preferences before exiting Radiant

Any help or links to websites would be great. I am motivated to finish the map, but it's hard with out the correct editting program. Thanks for your time

If you didn't get it off of the Official qeradiant website you might have the wrong verssion. The correct verssion is around a 50 mb download which can be found at the following link:

http://qeradiant.com/)

If that is what you have then go to the bug report section and report the bug.

If the file you have was 9mb then it is an older beta and you need to get the newer more stable version.

Lil Killa... I did get the program for the offical site and yes it was 95MB of downloading fun. I thought of submitting a bug report and I guess it would be a good idea to help the cause.

Like seks03, I do get some errors loading shaders like:

Unable to read shaderfile shaders/bonus.shader
Unable to read shaderfile shaders/ffawedge.shader
Unable to read shaderfile shaders/ninja_tex.shader

and

Checking for extension 'GL_ARB_texture_compression'...Not Found
Checking for extension 'GL_EXT_texture_compression_s3tc'...Not Found
texture compression is not supported by your current graphic card/drivers

Doh! Now that I just read that last line, maybe it's my video card? I have an ATI 9700 (not a pro) with the second most recent drivers. I know they just came out with a newer version, but I have had problems "upgrading" video drivers without a reason to do so.

I will try the drivers and post back soon. Thanks for both of your posts.

:compcry: :compcry: (One for me and seks03)

DOH!

Sometimes anger can be a bad thing. IF I read the end of the error message I would have tried to update my drivers. I just updated the drivers for my ATI 9700 card and reinstalled the program.

It opened just fine. Now it's time to start texturing the map my friend and I are working on. COOOLIO... Hope this helps others. Have fun mapping and playing JK Academy...

ahnil8tor03... don't be to hard on yourself. I know how to update drivers and it took me 3 times to get it right (because Windows XP can be a mean operating system).

You need to know the make and model of your video card. Go to the company's web site (ATI and Nvidia are the two most popular).

http://www.ati.com/)

http://www.nvidia.com/page/home)

Look for a hyperlink to "Drivers" or "Downloads" or "Support" or something like that. They will have you choose your video card AND your operating system to get the correct drivers.

They should have info that gives you a step by step how-to to update the drivers (print it out if you can). The process usually consists of uninstalling your old ones through Device Manager. Then you need to restart your system and Windows should use basic drivers for your video card. Then you run the installation program and you should be good to go!

I have Windows XP and XP reinstalls an older version of the ATI drivers from my card with out giving me the option of stopping the process. I ended up installing the new drivers over the old ones. I am not really suggesting this, but this is what I had to do with my computer knowledge. Like I said before, XP can be mean!

I hope this gets you started in the right direction. By the way, drivers are free and companies tend to release updated ones a few times a year (assuming it is a fairly new video card),
