ahnil8tor03... don't be to hard on yourself. I know how to update drivers and it took me 3 times to get it right (because Windows XP can be a mean operating system).
You need to know the make and model of your video card. Go to the company's web site (ATI and Nvidia are the two most popular).
http://www.ati.com/)
http://www.nvidia.com/page/home)
Look for a hyperlink to "Drivers" or "Downloads" or "Support" or something like that. They will have you choose your video card AND your operating system to get the correct drivers.
They should have info that gives you a step by step how-to to update the drivers (print it out if you can). The process usually consists of uninstalling your old ones through Device Manager. Then you need to restart your system and Windows should use basic drivers for your video card. Then you run the installation program and you should be good to go!
I have Windows XP and XP reinstalls an older version of the ATI drivers from my card with out giving me the option of stopping the process. I ended up installing the new drivers over the old ones. I am not really suggesting this, but this is what I had to do with my computer knowledge. Like I said before, XP can be mean!
I hope this gets you started in the right direction. By the way, drivers are free and companies tend to release updated ones a few times a year (assuming it is a fairly new video card),
:D
