though its too late for lucas arts to actually change the force powers, i was wondering what you guys thought of this "different take" on a force system.
i'll metaphor this between command and conquer (the original) and RA2. in C&C GDI could attack really well but could not defend at all, and NOD could defend but could not attack. where one specialised in one area, had nothing in the other.
This was diff in RA2 where one team might have something excellent for say... navel, the other team would just have something not as good, but still good. do you see where im coming from. instead of making one side good at one thing and absolute crap at another, make it so that a side is excellent at one thing and just not as good at another
i'd be curious to see how this "concept" could be implemented into our SW force system. atm we have one side that can ONLY attack and the other ONLY defend. i'd be curious to see what the game would be like if the dark side had just a few weak (but still usable) defense powers (eg protect), and the light side had just a few weak offensive powers (eg grip). ofcoarse the power on the wrong side would be not as good as it is on the natural side. but instead of "sharing" powers to the opposite side, maybe inventing 'mediocre' attacks for light and defenses for dark.
although this kinda goes against the concept of light dark i know, i think it'd be a strange thought. im not saying they should put it in the game. its just a thought i just pondered on
thanks for reading :D
People complain about JKII as being 'not starwars-y enough' for them ... this entire concept of yours is really not starwars-y.
Personally I like as broad a separation of light and dark as possible, while maintaining balance. Luke asked 'is the dark side stronger?' to which Yoda replied 'no, more seductive, faster'. So perhaps a level 1 dark power would be stronger than a level 1 light power, at level 2 about equal, and by level 3 the light should be stronger.

But nobody really uses their lvl 1 powers.. What do I do with lvl 1 grip, drain, push, pull, lightning etc etc ??? Nothing!! SO that would give the light side a big advantage :(

But if they were like level 2 ...
I was actually thinking SP, but realize this is more of a MP topic (which is why I suggested a [SP] or [MP] thread indicator, but since it is hard to get meaningful descriptions anyway ...)

I've seen in several places that light only defends and dark attacks. Where does that come from - seems to me that the jedi used some pretty damn violent attacks. So they waited until someone pulled a blaster - but they were not particularly defensive.
txa - that [sp] [mp] thing is a great suggestion. There is often confusion about this and that would help clear it up. I wish someone would start enforcing it.

Yoda - you know, little green guy, can barely walk, but flies around the room handing out cans of whoop-a** ?
Seriously - for me it is the intent of the power that is based on 'knowledge and defense'. For instance - Luke uses a form of grip to make sure the Gamorreans don't stop him from seeing Jabba, but not to kill them. Vader on the other hand, uses it as a means to cause fear and suffering (and death, of course). There is no defensive use of lightning, destruction, deadly sight, drain, or >lvl1 grip (IMO, of course)

That is an old tradition on many listservs, and can be very helpful. I don't want anyone to enforce it - it should be voluntary. Just like making your title useful ...

I like the idea of being able to use all Force powers available. Maybe there should be a server flag that is disabled by default, but when enabled allows all players to choose from all force powers. It could be called something like "Gray Force" or something similar. And it also unlocks a slider that lets you decide how ineffective a Force power becomes for a Jedi of the opposite side (you'd still have to pick a base side Light/Dark of course).
Also, I'd like the maximum number of distributable Force points to be customisable. Obviously this would not be the default either. That way you could make a game where no-one had to compromise with their powers.
It would be cool to turn off (or customise) maximum ranks for powers too. Combined with my above ideas this could be really interesting. Making the highest rank 10 instead of 3 in a particular game could increase the number of combinations.
The more choice the better.
Rockstar...this is at least the third thread you have started that has discussed this same related topic about the lightside Force having offensive powers etc. We all know by now that you want to see offensive powers on the light side. Please stop making these threads on the same topic. I look forward to your coooperation. This thread is now closed.
