Just so you know, the colors of every species can be altered. Rodians can be pretty much any color but the shade depends. The first Rodian I created had an off-white color to him, with a sort of mohawk haircut. It's amazing the depth to which you can create and alter your character's appearence. I enjoyed the ease to change features also. Sliding bars were very easy to work with.
Wookies, can be most any color and it is true, anything you see on a dog you can do to a wookie.
Now, on to species. Like you'd think some species are better adapted for some professions than others. For example, a Trandoshan has better stats for a brawler than a Mon Cal. As well, the Trandoshan has a +10 to unarmed hit, unarmed speed and I believe unarmed defense (recalling from memory). Not only that but they have a bonus to HP and they have a great regen. But the downside to that was almost every TK apprentice, student and master I saw was a Trandoshan. I mean it gets kind of lame if every TK (teras kasi) you see is a trandoshan. I for one think I'll play a Rodian at launch. I played one in beta and I liked it very much.
My character, Ebik, was quite independent. I could solo a white, not easily, but if i did my tactics very well I could kill it and still have SOME hp left. I started out as a scout, which I think I'd recommend if you wanted to be an artisian because part of the starting equipment are four surveying tools. Also, you can harvest right away which is a quick way to get scouting exp. So, I then trained as a marksman and brawler. Later on, about a week into beta I wanted the ability to use stimpaks and heal myself in camps I make. So i trained as a novice medic. So I was pretty much self-sufficient. I didn't really need to group, but i'd get more exp if i grouped. It may seem right from the start that one advances through skills quite fast but that's not true. Let's say I'm a brawler, and I go the unarmed route. Advanced Unarmed requires 1000 skill exp and 3 skill points Next Unarmed Specialist is 5000 skill exp and 3 skill points, then Unarmed Expert is 30000 skill exp and 3 skill pionts. And to get Master Unarmed combat you need 70000 skill exp and 3 skill points. That may not seem a lot, but depending on how you play and if you group or not, it WILL take you a while to get to master.
By friday last week, Ebik had expert carbine and expert unarmed, along with Organic Chem II (medical skill), Pharmocology I, survey II, I had Hunting III (trandoshan i believe) and Exploration III along with Survival II. It took me about 3-4 weeks to get all those skills and my combat skills would have improved quicker if I'd have grouped every night wiht some people. Hopefully, I will group a lot more with friends with release. I can see that if we group everynight for an hour or so, we have the potential to get to more specialized professions about a week to two weeks after launch. Which means, you'll see me as a TK inside a month, JR a bounty hunter and other whatever you want. The thing is, you'd think you'd fly through the specialized professions quicker, but no. It's crazy. Off the top of my head, i remember seeing on TK skill requiring 175000 experience! That's crazy, and you'll understand more once you see the charts.
---About the only annoying thing about beta was that I didn't have anyone to group with reguarly. Like I will with Launch. It was just pain to always meet someone new. I can't wait to group with JR and others :) ---
It all sounds awesome Caveman. I can't wait to play.
I also failed to mention that I had expert ranged support skills. Which boils down to, warning shot (scares mobs and they run, giving you some time to get some distance), tumble to role, prone, kneel and threaten shot.
No doubt JR, we are going to be awesome! Unstoppable!
So I cant wait to be a Zabrak scout/Marksman and become a bounty hunter and do the 2nd level missions. But first I'll be doing some delivery missions.
UC, you want unstoppable? Try fifteen guys that have been hunting Rancors and Purboles for two months. :D
Oh yeah, DS Owns!
Weapon choice of DS....Pistols.......
Edit: For those not in Beta or that are and have not visitted Dathomir....
Purboles are small humanoid creatures that are stalking pack hunters. Watch your back on Dath, or get mauled by ten Purbole stalkers and hunters. These things can take down Rancors. I've seen it. Scary...poor Rancor.
I've only been to Naboo, Endor, Lok, Tatooine, Rori- hopefully when I get home I'll head to Yavin IV, Dantooine, Dathomir. I can't wait to organize massive long term hunt on those planets.
yeah we should have all of the =A= combat group and BH group go and fight on Dathmor.:D
That's a great idea! You know, i'm going to form a daily hunt that'll start at the same place every time. Dahtomir could be a choice.
yeah I know I would come! Be a fast way to get skills or to see how fast you die. :D one or the other.
They should add Hoth later on. When the expansion comes out you could pilot a speeder and take down the AT-ATs.
:mob:
Silentbob- Spinal Tap is awesome!
I think Hoth would be cool- but not a planet i'd spend a lot of time on.
First post ever.
Why wouldn't Hoth be somewhere to spend alot of time on? Since we have only seen .001% of it, the developers could do pretty much whatever they wanted to do out there.
And what better planet to start the ZoC system? Hoth, Lok, Rori, and Tatooine would be my first planets to test ZoC's on. They are all GCW heavy, with big events happening on most, and they are barren enough to where you will not step on anyones toes.
Also, the battle of Hoth itself is reason enough to bring in Hoth. You could recreate the entire thing in a Battlefield. All you would need is 4 AT-AT's, some AT-ST's, alot of Stormtroopers and Imperial PC's, and a whole lot of Rebels that like to get killed by standing out in the open against AT-AT's lol. They could create triggers for when the AT-AT's crossed a certain section of land that is when the Ion Cannon fires into space and blows up the Destroyers sitting outside of Hoth. Then the transport takes off as well as the Falcon.
It could be done, and it would be soooooo sweet to experience. The experience alone is worth the effort.
Hoth is the sixth planet in the remote system of the same name. It is a world of snow and ice, surrounded by numerous moons. Small meteorites that have wandered away from a nearby asteroid field constantly pelt Hoth's icy surface. This icy world has developed a number of indigenous lifeforms, including the wampa ice creature, and the tauntaun. The daytime temperatures of Hoth were bearable for properly dressed humans, but the Hoth nights are too hostile even for the native creatures.
They're not going to put it in the game, because it's so barren (not to mention uninhabitable).
