OK . . . I got the crane swung around and dug-up that switch and pressed it . . . it causes the sand sink and expose that underwater doorway . . . only problem is that I cant find a way in the door! Some hints on where I might look? Also, is there something else I need to do up where I got the shovel? It just seems to dead-end and I couldn't find anything else up there . . . except for digging up that treasure. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Use the hammer on the plane propeller that is underwater. Then use the propeller peice to pry open the door.

As far as that dead end near the first of the level goes, you can use the piece of the machine you killed the Ice guardian with on a part of the wall that looks cracked. Treasure inside.
