*all I can do is ask, stop and think about it, and just say no*

The Core a movie please DO NOT see it.
I normally do not like to give away the plots of movies,
however in this case I have to.
The Core is a movie about an American Black Ops project
to harness the very forces of mother earth,
and then use them as weapons of MASS DESTRUCTION
against enemies of america.
ah yes where have I heard about this;
I know from the leader of the free world
in his desperate quest to defeat the Axis of evil.
Yes Saddam Husein is bad because our media says so
but hollywood movies which are described as
two thumbs up, non stop rollercoast
mega summer blockbuster.
(eventually complete with OST, DVD, Video
and perhaps technical awards at next years Oscars)
gee if Saddam Husein is bad we call him insane
but if George W 'burning' Bush's country makes
a movie about weapons of mass destruction,
it is just plain good fun for the entire family.

If you are for the War,
then go see this film
because madmen and englishmen
don't know when to come in
out of the desert sun.

BUT if you are against the war
and plan to go to see this film,
or already have; then you forfeit your rights
to protest, sign petitions or say anything at all
against the war, and or President Bush.

and in case some of you are thinking,
come on Eggy, it's only a movie
well as Yoda said in episode V
'that is why (america and it's allies) you fail.'

Uh...this movie flat out sucks. It can't even get its science right. To survive at the intense pressures of the core of the Earth you would need something that does not currently exist and will probably not for at least a zillion years. :disagree:

Well, I was kind of interested in seeing it....it just looked like something to go and watch to be entertained. So I might just skip this one....

note to forum members, do not think I will hissy fit on you if you decide to go, because after all people do like going to the movies, I just think some things like this should be re thought by our society as a genearal rule. I mean I play FPS games and strategy based games like Age Of Empires, Starcraft etc, and I must confess I am a big Kieffer Sutherland fan, so my going to the phone booth movie thingy may happen, so like I said walk your own path in life, just be sure to stop and look around occassionally and ask questions, even if it annoys people,
it is the only way to avoid becoming part of the sceenery.

The preview's looked bad, so I don't plan on seeing it. The plot sounds a lil' crappy too.

But I don't know where you are getting all this "bush" and "saddam" stuff from this movie........

of course the plot's going to suck. Ever since I saw the trailer before The Two Towers i was like not another 'the world is going to end and some butthead is going to save us' movie. and looks like i'm right. this kinda crap has been overdone too many times, why don't we just make a 'CREATE a world and it gets messed up in the process' movie??? now THAT would be interesting. the only reason why i'd go see this movie is for the not-so-special-to-those-in-the-movie-they-affect effects.

i was thinkin about seeing it, but i watched a interview on the daily show, and the plot sounde pretty weak. and i don't think any metals or anything could stand the heat and pressure of the core of the earth. so i might just rent it when it comes out on video, out of curiosity.
BTW, do the special effects look any good, or are they cheeply done? :)

*okay for the benifit of ckcsaber and nova_wolf*

In Star Wars episode 2 when Darth Tyranus (count duka)
gets away at the end with the plans for the Deathstar
as seen in episode IV A New Hope, the Deathstar
a piece of technology designed by the empire
and to be used to keep planets and governments in line
this is what's called a weapon of mass destruction
<it is only a movie> but surely you can see
it is a weapon of mass destruction.
On Star Trek nemesis that ship with the radiation thingies,
that is a weapon of mass destruction.
In 12 monkeys a crazy lab assistant with a chemical and or
biological weapon, that is a weapon of mass destruction.
(in real life because sometimes life mirrors art and vice versa)
in Iraq a country and leader with chemical or biological weapons
that is a weapon (or weapons) of mass destruction
as were fat man and little boy dropped on Japan
during WW2. all are weapons of mass destruction.

and as stated since life and art can mirror one another,
and when sometimes you have to look at the context,
or the bigger picture sometimes, when Hollywood
a franchise and major part of american culture
makes a movie about american scientists
creating a weapon which uses the earth's
natural energies as a weapon to use use against
america's enemies, can you say Deathstar.
(and since this american administration is ranting about
saddam husein and iraq having weapons of mass destruction,
when a movie from america, by americans and for american
entertainment values has to do with creating a weapon
of mass destruction, this is not being obtuse in any way.)

saying it is only entertainment is like saying oh well
they are only clones, so forget about it.

at any rate I hope this clears things up for you,
if you are playing devil's advocate; how very pithy
of you both. if you are being serious,
remind me never to sit near either one of you
in a movie theatre, as you most likely spend the entire
film saying outloud what does he mean by that?
what is happening? is that guy with the deep booming
voice all in black the bad guy?

:deathstar

Sorry Eggy old boy, I'm with Rhett on this one. I think you guys are injecting a wee bit too much symbolism into another sci-fi/event film. Don't believe the hype. I probably won't see it anyway, because it seemed a tad bit rediculous to me. There was a time when I enjoyed seeing all movies and then publicly sharing my opinions about them. Now days at about $7.50 a pop (not including consessions) I tend to use discression, and more wish to be entertained, but that is just me. If some publication gave me discounts in exchange for a print review, I would reconsider...

This is completely ridiculous that The Core is being compared to the current world events. It is unfair to take an artist's work and say that is speaking for the country as a whole. In fact, for those of you who don't know, Hollywood is the center of liberalism in America, so of anyone they would be anti-war (which they certainly are). The only reason this movie was released at this time was to try to ride the wave of patriotism the war is providing.

Regardless, you can't associate a film with the stance of the government. Far too many films have been released in contadiction to the government's beliefs for this to be true.

Correct me if I am wrong, but America does have SEVERAL types of weapons of mass destruction, no one denies that. The problem with Saddam is that he has used them and the potential for him to use them against us through terrorism is a very real danger (or it was at least).

You seem to be suggesting censorship, which is something that America prides itself in not doing. This is just a simple movie that is trying to capitalize on current American feelings.

Get over it. Turn on your TV, the war is being justified every minute.

True you can't associate the movie with the current events.

there is a lot of censorship in the united states. Go to europe. almost nothing is censored there.

You do realize the Death Star was thought up and used in a film in 1976?!!?

geee i feel silly,
guess next time i see on tv an act of terrorism,
car bombing, building being blown up,
the US army running for its life as the arab world
blows up around the fact that iraq is like in anarchy,
i will just sort of not think of a movie
and not think of it as a big deal,
i will just kind of watch and laugh and say
'death is funny.'
then go to the mall buy a brain freezy,
go online and play rainbow 6 or halflife or quake
buy myself a new cd, a pair of jeans and grab a burger
and chocolate shake and put on the really cool
rose colored sunglasses that came with my new mp3 player.
