What do you guys think. A new kind of terain for the game which is space, with like nebula clouds and the rest, done a bit like Star Trek Armada. It would be seriously cool to command huge fleets of ships using a AOK engine for SW instead of the clunky blocky one of Rebellion/Supremecy. I know the orbital platform (ripped from Star Craft in my opinion) will be quite cool. But a seperate space battle set up would be even better. Opinions please.

The AoK engine isn't made for that. It would require too much programming to change it. If they should make something it should be an entire new game, set in 3D.

As an expansion it won't work

That's what i wanted Rebellion to be, and that would be a very cool addon, but it would require so many new units for just an expansion, it would pretty much be a new game entirely.

I originally thought we would be able to do that. :(

it IS possible. But not with the AgeOfEmpires2 engine. It would be a lot better using the HomeWorld engine but again that would have to be heavily modified.

That would probably be a hit....if they ever decide to make something like it.

I bet it would. Only problem I had with Homeworld was the singleplayer story line wasn't really that great IMHO. Plus multiplayer wasn't well set up. Other then that everything was awsome.

Yeah, but the storyline would obviously change for new game, and they could revamp the MP and create a really good game.

if LEC wants to make a 3d space RTS I hope they dont use the HomeWorld engine, but I hope they dont doom it buy just using a updated version of ForceCommander. Just try creating a new one.

Yeah, but the last time they tried that it didn't turn out so well. If i remember correctly that is. Plus, LEC doesn't seem too willing to spend alot of time building an engine, and all their latest games have used already sucessful engines. I think that this change has helped them out alot, and they produced or are producing some quality games.

Yes but how do you want to create a quality game using sucessful game engine. There's only one space RTS game that was sucessful was HomeWorld even though its engine was the best. It was only good for the graphics, game speed and movement. formations etc. But not too strong in multiplayer (which is a big factor in most players these days)

Ok, so they could make some changes, but it's good to have a solid foundation to work on.

Actually, I think there'll be space terrain.

Quote: "The space tileset is reminiscent of the Starcraft space terrain, except that in addition to space platforms there are also large asteroids among the stars. They're also populated with familiar Star Wars fauna, such as taun tauns and wampaas. Even the space setting has neutral creatures--the winged mynocs that flutter around asteroids."

I don't think that you could do nebulas as stuff you described in 2d without making it look like **** !!

Best solution would be to use the kind of space as in SC, fortunately LEC is doing exactly that !!

Although in my opinion, this game doesn't need space terrain, it's much cooler to do ground battles (at least with AoK engine )!

Now kill me for my opinion and you'll finish your path to the dark side (exept all those Darths already running around here);)

Paragons don't join the Dark Side...
:D

space will be great if they have the units to back it up. that's my opinion anyway. from some screenshots i gather that they have these floating platforms that have all kinds of terrain - grass, mountains, whatever - and put those in space. that's not exactly what the people here are discussing, i think..

As I said, it's the SC way of Space !!

SC didn't have grass on it, but I still can't remember ever having seen plattforms float around in the air ...

you could build them with the editor though..
real easy too.

i wonder if the GB-editor will be the exact same as the AOK one ?

I am asking myself if there could be a way to import AoKs sprites into the editor ...

that's stretching the limits of imagination a bit too far, Com Raven..

but i doubt Imps would be impressed if a barbaric lunatic with a jaguar-mask would threaten them bare-handed.. :D
