With air units in the game, what tatics are you planning.
Before air units could only attack ground targets but now they can target other air units. So how are you planning on using them.
Well, if they are cheap, I'll use them as mobile AA defense... ;)

apparently they always could attack other air units, unless you're referring to previous rts games. in starcraft air units can attack other air units. i'd like to see what formations are available for air units and see how that goes. other than that, air units are for support of ground units, take out water units, and if some air units have long distance attack, take out some missile turrets, etc. and send in even more air units to wreak havoc...
you probably won't have air units til TL3...
Constan raiding Parties until the main force ready! ;)
i know that i'll probably use them to "soften up" targets before my invasion. Works in other rts's, why not this one?
anyone here who has played starcraft remember the guardian, that spider looking thing that had some serious long range ability? anyhow, i'm wondering if any air units had serious attack range such that they'd be out of range from turrets?
I usually use air units to complement my ground forces. Being fast you can easily do some damaging hit-and-runs. A good idea is to make a few air units, not revealing their presence to the enemy. When he comes to attack you with his main force take out his villagers. I think water units are probably strong against air units so taking out villagers seems their best use and not attacking sea targets. Don't forget the missle ship. Mechs are also good against air but in the rebels case, the snow speeder can kick mech ass meaning you can use air as your main force as rebels.
I think I got my facts straight:p
three words: GIANT AIR RAIDS :explode: :x-wing:
I'd probably use air units as defense.
But of course i'd also use them as backup in offense
I always loved making tons and tons of air units :) then wiping out his defenses and send in a raiding party :)

My plans exactly... :evil1:
iv never really played an rts other than Aok but i think im going to probably use my air units to take out the defenses and kill key buildings (comand center) and stuff like that
I keeping my tactics a top secret, but for you Imperilas, her'es a good air formation.
Tie FIGHTERS at the rim. They're fragile, making them easy to destroy. Put the stronger Tie units (not bombers, though) in the middle. They will provide good firepower yet won't be the first to be wreked by those damn :x-wing: s.
I'll prolly make a mixture of Air and Ground Units for hit and runs.. I imagine that the enemy will have some long range AA to knock your fighters out of the sky while on approach and could be shielded also...So in come the ground units.:atat: :dmaul3: :speeder: :snow: :trooper: :D
What air tactics...you higlight the ships, then click on the target? :D Not much strategy in that!
RTS TACTICS 101:
--------------------------
1. Build a thousand peons.
2. Build a thousand units.
3. Kill the other guy
4. Game over:D
Brilliant tactics:D
But that is only for a game where the other guy doesn't build up a thousand units too.:D
I would use my air units mainly for defense and raids. But if my oppenet doesn't build enough air defenes I'll use my fighters to destroy the air defenses while I rush in my bombers and hit critial tagets like the command center(town center) and unit producing structures and things like that. Thats also why the rebels are my second fav civ, they have the best air units. Also Mr. Fixit said that air units are available in TL3 and TL4 only.
did anyone notice how easily all of those X-wings died when attacking that anti-air turret in the first movie? And then the rest of them were finished off by 1 or 2 boats! I t made them look alot weakers than i was expecting them to be, but hey, maybe they've changed it since then. I sure hope so, otherwise some of our strategies could go down the drain.
my way of using air units will be like this.
Get a squad of fighters (12), and bombers.
Have the fighters escort the bombers, once they reach the target, fighters will be assinged to take on turrents, while the bombers hit the bigger buildings.
Also Targeting power units right before my attack on the enemy base.
i will use air weapons as a attack / defencive thing :p
actually i did read somewhere that air units can take out sea units (computer gaming world?). i guess you just need the rite amount...
Would be fun raiding with ties into undefended by air, base.
All I know, is I'm really gonna suck now. I'm halfway good at AOK, my problem being too laizze faire, but now, with air units, I will suck big time. I never was any good at starcraft.
