How are the end rankings calculated exactly? The only thing I've noticed that changes it is the number of times died. Accuracy, time, weapon used, good guys killed or damage taken seems to have little or no influence on this. I've gotten '9's on every level. Also what is the highest ranking? I've gotten Jedi Novice, Padawan Learner, Naboo Royal Guard, Jabba's Champion, & I think maybe Battle Droid. How do they all relate to each other?

One more thing: is there a PSX version of the PC codes [other than the level select and invincibility]? I like changing my characters, which is the main reason I use the PC one, but the PSX version is a lot more stable and responds better [probably because it doesn't use Windows; Emperor Palpatine is alive and well and living in Redmond].

I'll tell you how it was explained to me. I will also be honest and say that we originally wanted to take a LOT of things into account when calculating it, but it came down to simplicity.

Everyone starts out with a '4' ranking on the Trade Federation level. If you end a level without dying or restarting, your number goes up by 1. If you die repeatedly, your number goes down. If you're having an especially hard time, the difficulty of the game gets much easier in terms of how accurate and how fast the bad guys fire at you.

There's an equation (the specifics of which I don't know) that is factored into the difficulty of the "shoot" routines of the enemies. If your ranking is low, they shoot with less accuracy and at a slower rate. If your ranking is high, then they become more accurate with less time between shots fired.

Highest ranking is Jedi Master. Jedi Knight is next...and...umm...I think Padawan Learner is next. (one of these days I gotta find out what that list is and post it.) The ranking name is directly related to the rank number you get.

No, the PC codes are not available for the PSX - I'm not sure why.

So then why does it stop at 9? If that's the highest number, why doesn't it give the highest ranking? Does time have anything to do with it? When you say having a hard time, do you mean dying alot or just getting hit alot?

I thought 9 was Jedi Master, 8 was Jedi Knight, 7 was Jedi Novice. I could be wrong - as I said, I need to find that list http://www.jediknight.net/mboard/smile.gif)

We didn't go above 9 because, well, it's like "why do grades stop at A?" We chose a number and stuck to it; that way we didn't have to come up with "King God of the Universe" etc for rankings.

Time has nothing to do with your ranking. Hard time means dying/restarting more than once.

I've had Jedi Novice, Padawan Learner and others with a 9 ranking. Doesn't seem to make sense. King God of the Universe sounds pretty good to me http://www.jediknight.net/mboard/wink.gif)

The ranking shows how you FINISHED the game, so if you got all 9's, then died a few times on Final Battle, you'd get bumped down to an 8 and therefore Jedi Knight.

Yeah, that's what I meant. I finished with a 9 and got those rankings. I can show you the screen shots if you like.

I am having the same trouble obtaining a higher rating.

As I understand time has no effect.
How is it that I can obtain a higher rating other than Panawan Learner?

Does it involve obtaining all items on the level and helping all people requiring assistants?

Do I also have to kill every foe I come across?

I finished the game and reached Jedi Master a couple of times. I only died once or twice throughout the whole game. I think that determines your final rankings. I killed most of the enemies I encountered. Except for level 2. I avoided alot of battle droids there. Anyway here is how I finished 4,5,6,7,8,9,9,9,9,9,9, 2h 24m 48s.

Jedi72 has, I think, the correct format to get the Jedi Master ranking. Your ranking is obtained by your score at the END of the game, not an average of the scores of all your levels. My recollection is that you don't get a numeric ranking at the end; just a final "worded" ranking. I could be wrong on this though. So, to get a Jedi Master ranking, you see in Jedi72's post, his ranking number grew each level until he hit 9, which is the highest you can go. And, on the Final Battle level, he RETAINED his 9, so he received a Jedi Master ranking. If your score went from 9 to 8 because you died two or more times (falling off the rings, maybe?), you would get a Jedi Knight (or lower, if you died/restarted more) ranking. But, since the number for the Final Battle level isn't seen, it would look like you finished with a 9, when in actuality you received an 8.

The PSX version works the exact same way. The ranking from level to level works EXCLUSIVELY on the number of times you restart the level or load a savegame; due to death or if you're just unhappy with how you did in a certain area. Number of enemies killed/secrets earned etc. etc. are not calculated in your ranking.

<font color="green1">I sense that you don't believe us. I got this score ten minutes ago. I went through the whole game without dying or using codes.

WOW - I don't know how these numbers came out like this. My understanding was that the MAXIMUM you could gain on one level was 1 ranking point, and everyone starts out at 4. So even if you didn't die once, your numbers should be 4,5,6,7,8,9,9,9,9,9,9.

So you got me, I'll double-check with our programmers to see.

<font face="BernardMod BT"><font color="green1">Zanzibar, have you found anything out? Cause this is starting to irritate me a bit.

I just went through the game again. I played it as straight-laced as possible (i.e. doing everything how we were meant to instead of straying off the beaten path). Scores were 4,5,6,7,8,9,9,9,9,9,9. Ranking was again Jedi Novice. http://www.jediknight.net/mboard/mad.gif)

As my rating. Can anyone tell me what that is? http://www.jediknight.net/mboard/wink.gif)
