A-Wing vs. X-Wing

Here's a matter we haven't brought up yet: aerodynamics. When we look at it like that, we find that the A-wing's fuselage is shaped in a manner known as a lifting body...that is to say, the body of the spacecraft is shaped in such a way that air flowing over the top will take longer than that going under, which causes lift. If dropped into a wind tunnel, a model A-wing would generate some lift as it 'flew along.'

An X-wing, however, has the same aerodynamic profile of, say, celery. http://www.roguesquadron.net/forums/biggrin.gif) The X-wings in RS must have some kind of magic levitation generators, because those flat wings of theirs are going nowhere but down...and four engines in back only make it fall faster.

Now, the Naboo starfighter looks aerodynamic enough, but its shape would actually be better suited to a water craft. Seriously--stick propellors on the engines, and you have Jacques Cousteau's personal submarine dragster. http://www.roguesquadron.net/forums/smile.gif)

An aerodynamic nightmare would be the airspeeder. Pardon this, but unless that profile were modified, it would be more of an airstaller...

And the Y-wing? Maybe if the cockpit module were blasted clear of the rest of the ship it could generate some lift. http://www.roguesquadron.net/forums/biggrin.gif)

Let's see...the Millenium Falcon would cut the air pretty well, but its shape is too symmetrical to cause any lift. Sorry, Chewie. The TIE interceptor would have the same problem. You know what would have a pretty good chance of flying? The V-wing--too bad its repulsor lift keeps it on the ground. http://www.roguesquadron.net/forums/frown.gif)

Let the debate begin...now http://www.roguesquadron.net/forums/biggrin.gif)

Most ships have repulsor lifts to get it off the ground. Once you're in space you don't need repulsor lifts because there's no gravity in space, you just need engines to push your around.

Yes and to answer that last part its not the repoulserlift that holds it to the ground its the repoulsergrip. The guys probably never once been to a podrace... http://www.roguesquadron.net/forums/biggrin.gif)

Hmmm. One of my aliases, Zoom Rabbit, is a podracing nickname (chosen because I always raced the Neva Kee racer.) http://www.roguesquadron.net/forums/biggrin.gif) Try again.

What I meant by the repulsorlift keeping it on the ground was the limitations of its repulsor-field design. The V-wing cannot climb very far from the ground, as anyone discovers when they try taking it to Sullust. Now a repulsorgrip is a completely different beast...its function does involve levitating the pod at low speed, but once the racer is skimming in the 'dead air zone' (ever notice how birds can ride the air just above the ground for long distances?), the repulsorgrip's job becomes keeping the racer attatched to that dead zone by maintaining a level distance from the ground. The difference is very subtle, but in the high-speed podracer there is more need for control than there is lift.

Never raced a podracer...why I never...

Commander 598: I think our friend here is a 'BTC medalist.' http://www.roguesquadron.net/forums/biggrin.gif)

And I'll bet Rogue15 used missiles on the reactor to get that medal at Sullust... http://www.roguesquadron.net/forums/wink.gif)

I raced Anikan once, I had some special secret weapons on my podracer. Anikan didn't make it through the race. http://www.roguesquadron.net/forums/biggrin.gif)

So you were using Sebulba's podracer? AH-hah-hah-hah--! Pardon, but top speed is not the best criteria for choosing a podracer. http://www.roguesquadron.net/forums/wink.gif)

It's important in a starfighter, but podracers usually have more speed than they know what to do with. The best approach is to build your own...choose one with good traction and braking, repair, etc., then upgrade the steering and speed as your racing skills improve. But if you insist on starting with top speed, try Ben Quadrineros. His racer actually goes faster than it says...

Did you try any of the other courses? http://www.roguesquadron.net/forums/smile.gif)

I got a gold in Sullust with the Naboo. Man, that ship is hard to get used to but once you get it you can bet that level in less than four minutes. http://www.roguesquadron.net/forums/smile.gif)

Is Pod Racer worth the money to buy? Does it have good replay value like RS or is it mostly a few races and then uninstall kind of game?

Of coarse I tried other tracks Imladil. (Everyone of em) Yes, I did use Subulba's podracer (good ol' fire jet never fails!) I took out a podracer in each! (Sorry, there are no more podraces anymore, not to forget to mention podracers. http://www.roguesquadron.net/forums/biggrin.gif) Accept for me.) But if any of you want to try to challenge me I would win every time! Mwahahahaha!

My favorite planet was good old Ando Prime. Long, icy runs suit my style of racing best.

And since I'm an A-wing pilot, I think it's a foregone conclusion that I would flat whip your slow butt like Bugs Bunny racing a sick nun... http://www.roguesquadron.net/forums/tongue.gif)

True story--the very first time I raced in Beggar's Canyon (RS version), I went after Wedge...and beat him. I took those two shortcuts on instinct and got the gold medal. First time. Me. Yes. http://www.roguesquadron.net/forums/smile.gif)

I like the podracer, Neva Kee. I call his podracer the Y-Wing podracer because it resembles a Y-Wing so much.
