I have noticed that in each level there is one of your friends you can't shoot down. And if something annoyies me, its not being able to shoot down my friends!

In some levels you cant shoot down friends(as some call them)because they are needed in the movies at the end.Ya understand.
I believe I spent twenty minutes trying to shoot down that last X-wing at Jade Moon. Dirty trick if you ask me...
