Is there any way that I could get MDL files into XSI, or at least into 3ds Max?

Unsure about XSI, but NWMax works with 3ds max the same way as with gmax, at least for some of the older versions.

NWMax works for the earliest version of max that nwmax was available for up to now.

As for getting it into XSI, if you absolutely must, you can import your mdl files into 3ds, export it as a file that XSI can readily recognize (maybe .obj or .3ds, haven't checked out what files xsi can and can't import), then import it there. You can also do that with any modeling program of choice, but remember that some things can get lost during export/import, such as vert data and the like.

EDIT: Damn, I should really not forget I have a tab open that has a post...
