TOR also revealed a new planet today - we get some Taris and Rakghouls again.

I'm happy they brought Taris back - it always was a cool planet to me since it's where KotOR started (after the Ebon Hawk).

Taris is a post-apocalyptic swamp, abandoned but not forgotten by the greater galaxy for three centuries. Until recently, only overgrown ruins bore testimony to the thriving civilization that once dominated the surface – a civilization annihilated by the Sith Lord Darth Malak while seeking to eliminate the Jedi Knight Bastila Shan.

As a symbol of hope and redemption in the face of Sith atrocities, the Republic has begun an unlikely effort to re-colonize Taris, establishing a spaceport, military base and the beginning of settlements amid the ruins. The remnants of the once great city-world have proven to be far more treacherous than anyone expected, though, and many believe the effort to reclaim Taris is doomed to end in disaster. One thing is certain – cleaning up what the Sith destroyed isn’t nearly as perilous as facing what they didn’t.

Deep in the dark swampy ruins lies the legacy of a centuries old plague, once confined to Taris’ demolished Undercity. Bands of horrific rakghouls – abominations created by Sith alchemy – ravage the planet’s surface. Each vicious attack carries the chance of transforming the victim into a diseased monstrosity. There are scattered reports that some of these rakghouls are evolving bizarre, freakish powers.

Determined to overcome the challenges, Republic and Jedi leaders are moving forward with the efforts at colonization. Rebuilding what the Sith destroyed 300 years ago would be a monumental symbolic victory, showing the galaxy that the Sith are not to be feared. But the Empire has no intention of allowing such a significant achievement.

Might I say, it's about damn time. :carms:

Yay Taris! Knew it from a mention of Taris in a video months ago, but it's nice to finally see it. To be honest, it has more surviving skyscrapers than I'd have expected for a massive orbital bombardment.

It had a LOT of skyscrapers though.

Ayway, no big surprise, but it's cool that they are totally redesigning Taris with a good lore base, instead of just saying "oh they rebuilt it."

So I wonder if we'll find out if the outcasts ever made it to the Promised Land? That's one little storyline I've I've always wanted to see the outcome to.

I think the promised land was the surface for the outcasts. They, as we all know, were the only known guys to survive the bombardment.

I agree, after 300 years they'll have had plenty of time to build their little communist paradise and reinvent the printing press so they can distribute their poorly xeroxed socialist newsletters.

I'm liking this, I've had some of my fondest memories on Taris (remembers killing the old biggot :)). I have also been wondering if the outcasts ever found their promised land.

The last pic for some reason reminds me of Midgar, it must be the flora & advanced technology co-existing in a dark post apocalyptic world.

And the huge great ceiling overhead. :xp:

Anyway, good to see at least one of our predictions/wishes coming to fruition. One of the (few) pleasing announcements about TOR, to be sure. And yep, it'd be nice to find out what happened to the Outcasts - I'd always just gone with 'they found the Promised Land. It was all they had ever hoped for. Then the Sith bombarded it.'

Why are you saying/implying TOR has only had a few pleasing announcements? Every new planet they reveal is sweet, with many being pulled from obscure EU lore. I love any new reveal they do. The only time I'm underwhelmed is the "Threat of Peace"-only weeks, and those are few and far between.

Maybe the outcasts found the Promised Land, only to find that it had been slagged along with the rest of Taris in the orbital bombardments Malak ordered.

I personally LOVE Taris, I'm very glad they brought the planet back!
After you witness the destruction of Taris at the hands of Malak it's pretty clear that there is no planet there anymore, so this confirms Taris wasn't completely destroyed either.
The concept art looks marvelous, I can't wait to roam across Taris yet again.

I'm glad they included Taris but something kinda strikes me as odd. The Republic was starting to rebuild things in KOTOR 2..and in 300 years they've done this little with Taris? Maybe there's more to it than the video showed or maybe I missed something, but it doesn't seem like they've come very far.

300 years is not a very long time when rebuilding an entire planet. Also, the planet was infested with Rakghouls and I'm sure the war with the Sith set things back some.
