I know that this game is very popular, do I need to buy the first one, is it crucial to the story? And what kind of game is it? It all leads to the question, is it worth the buy?

The first one is better in most ways, so yes. Also, without the first one, the plot won't make all that much sense. It'll make some sense, but it's like watching Empire Strikes Back having never watched A New Hope.

I would insist that you buy the first one and play it before going to the second.

The game is an RPG based on the d20 game system (Dungeons & Dragons mechanics)

It's violently worth the buy.

You seriously buy a game just because it uses D20? That's an...interesting criteria.

I'd definitely Buy the first one. That way you can relize how bad the second one is.

To some degree, yes. You can stand still and look in first-person view. Other than that, your in the Gears-of-War-esque view.

It's a fabulous game, lots of fun, plenty of witty dialog. HK-47 and Jolee's comments are worth the price of the game alone.
