Can you import player models from TSL into KotOR?

Hello,

Recently, I've been getting back into modding KotOR and TSL. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience bringing in items from TSL into KotOR? Specifically, what I'm trying to do is bring the human female head in TSL, PFHA04 into KotOR as a selectable head at the character start screen. I've done the following:

*Created new entries in appearance.2da file
*Created new entries in the portraits.2da file
*Created new entries in the heads.2da file
*Renamed the portrait icon from PFHA04 to PFHA06
*Renamed the skin from PFHA04 to PFHA06

What I think is messing me up is the .mdl and .mdx files. I went in and edited them with an mdlops.exe program, but now whenever i try to select my new head at the character creation screen the game crashes.

Are TSL .mdl files unable to be renamed and used in KotOR? Or if they are, is there something I am doing wrong?
