I have the X-Wing Collector Series and I can run both X-wing and XVST, however each time I start Tie-Fighter it indicates me I need to install DirectX and it's stuck there. I never ran the game. Eventually trying to run it using the Tie95.exe in the directory makes a win xp error.

My specs:

WinXP SP 2 with Direct X 9

when i run the "Analyse your Computer" thingy it's all "PASSED".
Why can't I run the game?

The only thing that I could find that may possibly help you is compatibility mode. Lucasarts tells you how to do it here.

http://yodashelpdesk.lucasarts.com/faq.asp?sid=193734071117071061137245&pid=1395&pnm=Star%Wars©:%TIE%Fighter©&seid=3794&pos=Windows%XP&top=System%Requirements&rid=20367)

Good luck.

Actually, the same 3D compatibility fix on LucasFiles (http://www.lucasfiles.com/?s=&action=file&id=653) that allows the XW95 and TIE95 to run w/ hardware 3D acceleration in WinXP also fixes the DirectX version problem in TIE95 (what MandoBlood is describing is TIE95 looking for DirectX 5 even w/ later versions already installed). :)

Speaking of the 3D comp patch, when I try and use it, it crashes with an error, followed by a "X has generated errors and will be closed by windows" error. Any ideas?
